The College Basketball Conference Championships are in full force this week. The ACC, Big 12 and Big Ten have terrific games starting on Wednesday, March 9 and that is where my 2016 college basketball conference championship free picks begin.
NC State tries to find some of the magic from last year’s ACC Tournament when the Wolfpack take on #19 ranked Duke on Wednesday. On Thursday, March 10, #22 Baylor battles #23 Texas in the Big 12 Conference Championship Tournament. The final game I look at for this week’s best bets has Penn State tackling Ohio State in the Big Ten Conference Championship Tournament. Penn State battles Ohio State on Thursday.
A Closer Look At My College Basketball Conference Championship Week Free Picks
NC State vs #19 Duke
When: Wednesday, March 9 at 2:00 pm ET
The Wolfpack beat Wake Forest 75 to 72 on Tuesday. It was a nice win from NC State who pretty much has to win the ACC Tournament in order to garner a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Anthony “Cat” Barber scored 22 points, grabbed 4 boards, and dished 6 assists against the Demon Deacons on Tuesday.
Barber is going to have to be as good on Wednesday if the Wolfpack expect to march further along in the ACC Tournament. Barber had some nice games against the Blue Devils earlier this season. NC State lost both games. It’s hard to see the rest of the Wolfpack doing enough to support Barber in his pursuit of beating the Blue Devils. Duke should win this game.
#22 Baylor at #23 Texas
Conference: Big 12
When: Thursday, March 10 at 9:30 am ET
TV: ESPN 2
The last time that these 2 teams met, Baylor beat Texas 78 to 64. The Bears played an excellent game on that day. But the game took place on Feb. 20. Since that time, Baylor hasn’t been all that great. The Bears have lost 3 out of 4. They go into this matchup having dropped a home game to West Virginia by an embarrassing 58 to 69 score.
Texas goes into this game off of a 2 game winning streak. The Longhorns won 3 out of their last 4 regular season games. One of the wins was a terrific 76 to 63 victory over Oklahoma on Feb. 27. Texas should do enough to end Baylor’s Big 12 Tournament run early on Thursday.
Penn State vs Ohio State
Conference: Big Ten
When: Thursday, March 10 at 3:30 pm ET
At 16 and 15, Penn State needs to win the Big Ten Conference Tournament in order to move on to the Big Dance. The Nittany Lions have shown signs of being a competitive squad. They beat Iowa and top Big Ten seed Indiana during the regular season.
For the Ohio State Buckeyes, beating Penn State is a must. The last time that these 2 teams met, the Buckeyes trounced the Nittany Lions 66 to 46. Ohio State’s D held Penn State to 20 from 60 from the field and 4 out of 25 from three. Not much should change on Thursday. Ohio State is the play in this matchup.
Pick: Ohio State
