College Basketball’s Best Bets This WeekNoah Williams
Considering the wonky state of gambling when it comes to teams like Kansas and Kentucky, there are lots of other teams to keep track of in my college basketball’s best bets feature this week. Four of them are top-10 ranked teams. The other one is a team you’ve never heard of…and probably shouldn’t have.
#7 Michigan State Spartans (18-2 SU and 10-7-2 ATS)
The Spartans were on the wrong side of the news reel this weekend when they lost to the rival Michigan Wolverines, a loss which put them in a 0-2 ATS rut last week. Even still, the surefire Spartans are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall and have two monumental games this weekend against 15th ranked Iowa and Georgetown at a neutral location. Those that love team basketball should adore these Spartans. They have a chance to re-assert themselves in the big picture as one of college basketball’s best bets this coming week with some headlining matchups against fairly formidable foes. Expect great value against Iowa and a demolition of the Hoyas.
Upcoming Games: @ Iowa (1/28), vs. Georgetown (2/1)
#2 Syracuse Orange (19-0 SU and 10-4-1 ATS)
The Orange continue to be one of the best money makers amongst all of the ranked teams, and they have a massive tilt this weekend as they face Duke over the weekend on their home court. That’s going to be as big of a statement game as there is, and the undefeated Orange will be looking to protect their perfect record.
Frankly, Syracuse has blown up the sportsbook with a terrific 4-1-1 ATS record this month and have been a profit monster throughout the season. Keep relying on C.J. Fair and Syracuse. Like Michigan State, they’re lacking in “big name” players but that’s only keeping the lines against them reasonably balanced. Expect them to make a name for themselves against Jabari Parker and the routinely over-valued Duke Blue Devils.
Upcoming Games: @ Wake Forrest (1/29) vs. Duke (2/1)
#4 Wichita State Shockers (21-0 SU and 14-3-1 ATS)
Just consider them a weakly fixture amongst college basketball best bets from now through March Madness. The Shockers have gone an insane 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games and have won the most games of any team in the country. Beating up on the Missouri Valley Conference allows them to maintain value throughout the year. They won’t always have betting lines on their games, but when they do, they’re automatic.
Upcoming Games: vs. Loyola-Chicago (1/28), vs. Evansville (2/1)
#3 Florida Gators (17-2 SU and 8-6-1 ATS)
The Gators have been on my radar as a team to watch, but they’ve had trouble covering consistently. Well, that’s all changed in recent weeks which is why Florida is a sudden addition to my college basketball best bets. The fact that they’re in the SEC should help them maintain their awesome 17-2 SU record but in the past five games they’re gone 4-1 ATS as well and with very winnable games on the schedule, it’s time you started paying attention to the Gators. Nobody else is.
Upcoming Games: @ Mississippi State (1/30), vs. Texas A&M (2/1)
IUPU-Ft. Wayne Mastodons (16-6 SU and 12-4-1 ATS)
I’ve been mandated by my editor to only write about ranked teams, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t steer you towards a hidden little gem like IUPU-Ft. Wayne, who have gone a cagey 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games. They’re also one of college basketball’s best bets overall because they play in the lousy Summit League, so consider this a great “bet it and forget it” team. You won’t be able to see them on television anyhow, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make money off of them.
Upcoming Games: vs. Nebraska-Omaha (1/30), vs. Western Illinois (2/1)
