College Hoops Free Picks Feb 29 – March 6Josh Bailey
The first week of March provides some great opportunities in college hoops for my free picks. California takes on Arizona in a Pac 12 game that could go a long way in building Cal’s NCAA Tournament resume. Ohio State and Michigan State throw down on Saturday with the Spartans searching for a 1 seed in the Tournament while Big Ten rivals Maryland and Indiana jockey for position in the tourney in a top notch Sunday battle.
A Closer Look At My College Hoops Free Picks Feb 29th – March 6th
California at No. 9 Arizona
When: Thursday, March 3 at 9:00 pm ET
There is something wrong with the Arizona Wildcats. Arizona goes into this March 3 game with California off of 2 straight road losses. The road loss to Utah on Feb. 27, where Arizona failed to cover by.5 of a point as a +3.5 point dog in a 64 to 70 loss, wasn’t that bad. But losing 70 to 75 to Colorado on the road as a -5.5 point favorite was.
California beat Arizona 74 to 73 in the last game between these 2. Arizona is 9 and 7 ATS at home this season while Cal is 4 and 5 ATS on the road this season. The Wildcats aren’t as good as they have been in years past. With that being written, they should bounce back in a huge way on Thursday. I expect the Cats to cover and win big in Tucson.
Ohio State at No. 6 Michigan State
When: Saturday, March 5 at 12:00 pm ET
The Ohio State Buckeyes battled Michigan State on Feb. 23. Okay. It wasn’t much of a battle. Michigan State trounced the Buckeyes 81 to 62. Although the Spartans had some trouble earlier in the season, this Michigan State team has to be one of the favorites to win the trophy going into March Madness.
The Spartans have been as impressive and as profitable for college hoops handicappers, as any team in the nation. Michigan State is 8 and 1 straight up to start the week. They are 9 and 0 ATS in their last 9 to start the week. Ohio State won’t stop the Sparty train no matter what they try to do on Saturday.
Pick: Michigan State
No. 10 Maryland at No. 18 Indiana
When: Sunday, March 6 at 1:30 pm ET
Maryland has gone 1 and 3 straight up in their last 4 to start the week. That’s not a good sign. The Terps should have no problem beating Illinois on March 3. But then they have to travel to Indiana to take on the Hoosiers.
The Terps beat the Hoosiers 79 to 65 the last time that they played. Unfortunately for Maryland, Indiana is a much better home team than they are a road team. The Hoosiers are an awesome 11 and 5 ATS at home this season. Maryland has enough talent to win the NCAA Tournament. But they don’t have the focus to win the Tournament. They also don’t have the focus to beat Indiana straight up or ATs on Sunday. I’m backing the Hoosiers.
