College Basketball Conference Tournament PicksJosh Bailey
College Basketball Conference Tournaments take place this week. Although the SEC and Big Ten play tournaments this week, the biggest questions are in the ACC, Big 12, and Pac-12 tournaments. A new No. 1 seed could emerge from each one of those tournaments.
College Basketball Conference Tournament Picks
Is the ACC all about North Carolina and Duke? Or, could a surprise team make a move in the ACC? Is Kansas going to roll over their opponents in the deep Big 12? What’s going to happen in the Pac 12 among UCLA, Arizona, and Oregon? Keep reading for my picks to win the ACC, Big 12, and Pac 12 College Basketball Tournaments!
ACC Tournament Pick
- North Carolina
- Florida State
- Notre Dame
Top-seed North Carolina goes into the tournament having beaten Duke 90 to 83 this past Saturday. NC was a -7 favorite. The Tar Heels pushed in the win. North Carolina won the ACC Tournament last season while Duke hasn’t won the ACC Tournament since 2011.
I like Florida State. The Seminoles took home this tournament in 2012. They’ve had a quiet season, finishing second to North Carolina, while the Dookies, Heels, and Louisville have gotten all the attention. FSU has a great inside-outside game.
7’ 4” center Christ Koumadje forces opponents to switch up their defenses. But, FSU can play small as well. The Seminoles can play fast, like when they beat Clemson 109 to 61 on Feb. 5. Or, they can play slow, like when they beat Miami 66 to 57 on March 4.
I think Florida State can upset the Blue Devils, Tar Heels, and Cardinals.
Pick: Florida State
Big 12 Tournament Pick
- West Virginia
- Iowa State
On January 7, Baylor was undefeated at 15 and 0. There was a lot of talk that the Bears might secure a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament. Things changed in a hurry for the Bears. Baylor has gone 10 and 6 straight up in their last 16 games.
The good news for Bears’ fans is that Baylor has won their last 2. One of the wins was a terrific 71 to 62 beat down of West Virginia on Feb. 27. One of the losses was a close 65 to 67 loss to Kansas on Feb. 18.
Is Baylor ready to upset Kansas and West Virginia and claim the Big 12 Tournament Title? I think that they are. Baylor forward Jonathan Motley averages 17.5 points and 10 boards per game. If the Bears lean on Motley, they can beat the Jayhawks and Mountaineers.
Pac 12 Tournament Pick
In 2013, Oregon won the Pac 12 Tournament. In 2014, the winner was UCLA. 2015 saw Arizona win it before last season when Oregon won it again.
Is it UCLA’s turn? Arizona? Does Oregon win the Pac 12 Tourney again? My money is on Arizona.
The Bruins are a great team. So, is Oregon. But, Arizona now has a legitimate 25 points a game scorer in Alonzo Trier to go along with super frosh Lauri Markkanen. Arizona’s come together nicely while UCLA was hot early in the season, and Oregon got hot during the middle of the season.
I’m backing the Wildcats to win the Pac 12 Tournament.
