The Difference Has To Be Larry Brown

This will be a game to remember, the Mustangs are coming in red hot as they have turned their basketball program around with the hire last season of head coach Larry Brown, who was a great NBA coach for years. As the top seed they have really outplayed themselves, moving the ball well and really playing hard defense to secure the rebounds. The Golden Bears will not have an easy game in this one.

(2) California Golden Bears vs. (1) SMU Mustangs
The (2) California Golden Bears and the (1) SMU Mustangs meet this Wednesday in the Men’s Basketball NIT Championship matchup.
Starts: 03/26/2014 9:00PM
Moody Coliseum, 6185 Airline
Dallas, Texas

California is used to the better competition; they are in the Pac-12 conference so the opponents they play on a week to week bases are mostly made up of teams in the NCAA tournament right now. This Golden Bears team thinks it was robbed this year from the Tournament so they have a really thorn in their foot so to say and they are playing very good basketball. I really want to see this team rebound the ball better on the offensive side, they seem to get a little carried away with the slightest lead and that will not be a possibility against SMU or they will find themselves in a hole early.

Southern Methodist ended last year regular season 3 games below .500, they had a section during that season where they lost 10 of their 14 games, sending them home early. This season they are 25-9 and with a real chance to blow their NIT tournament open. Head coach Larry Brown best remembered for his time with Allen Iverson and the 76ers has completely changed the culture with this program and you can see the fire in their eyes when these kids are on the court.

Pick: SMU is ridding the momentum wave and it’s a tsunami right now, the Golden Bears are really going to try to apply pressure in the run game but I have the Mustangs keep their cool and taking this game by double digits in the end.
