Duke Vs Notre Dame Betting Tips & Final Score Prediction

The fourth ranked Duke Blue Devils and eighth ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish are two of the top teams, not only in the ACC, but in all of college hoops and tomorrow they go head-to-head at Purcell Pavilion in South Bend.

Duke mounted a fantastic road comeback against the St. John’s Red Storm to get Coach K his 1,000th win on his career, but with this 3 game trip ending against the No. 2 Virginia Cavaliers after this game against the Irish, the Blue Devils won’t have a chance to celebrate.

Notre Dame also needed a comeback to win their last game after they overlooked NC State proving they can mount a comeback which is a necessary trait come March Madness time, especially from a No. 3 or No. 4 seed.

The Duke Blue Devils Will Beat the Notre Dame Irish If

  1. If the inside/outside game of Okafor and Jones is working – Freshman Tyus Jones, the Blue Devils’ starting point-guard, is averaging 5.1 assists per game. Most of his assists have gone to likely player of the year Jahlil Okafor who is averaging 18.5 points. Duke is a seriously talented team, but Jones and Okafor have to be playing off of one another in order for the Blue Devils to beat Notre Dame.
  2. Rasheed Sulaimon has a good game off the bench – Sulaimon is one of the best three-point shooters in the ACC. He’s connecting on 41.8% of his three-point attempts. The Blue Devils may not have needed Sulaimon’s three-point prowess in order to beat St. John’s but they’re definitely going to need it in order to take down Notre Dame.
  3. Duke plays lock down defense – The Blue Devils have started playing zone, a no-no under Coach K for the longest time, but it’s doubtful that they’ll be able  to keep Notre Dame from hitting shots while in a zone. The Devils are going to have to play lock down, man-to-man defense in order to beat the Irish.

The Notre Dame Irish Will Beat the Duke Blue Devils If

  1. Notre Dame gets hot from behind the arc – As a team, the Irish shoots 40% from 3-point land. They have to complete at least that percentage against Duke in order to win. Notre Dame should exploit Duke’s defense if the Blue Devils come out playing zone. Then, if the Blue Devils switch to man-to-man, Notre Dame can go ahead and start running their three-point shooters off screens.
  2. Prevent Okafor from getting touches – Duke is difficult to deal with because their three-point shooters are so good and Okafor is so good at passing out of double-teams. Don’t double-team Okafor. Instead, try and prevent him from getting the ball in the first place.
  3. Get Jerian Grant going –Jerian Grant is the Irish’s leading scorer at 17 per game. He single-handedly took it to North Carolina State in an 81 to 78 overtime victory when scoring 25 points in the Irish’s last game. Grant has to score at least 20 against Duke if not more than 20 in order for Notre Dame to win.

Bet On the Duke Blue Devils to Beat the Notre Dame Irish

Duke is just too difficult for the Irish to handle. Okafor is the best player in the nation and the Blue Devils have three-point shooters up and down their bench. The Irish will play Duke tough, but at the end of the day, Okafor will make sure that Duke stays close before a three-pointer from Sulaimon or Jones buries the Irish.

My Final Score Prediction:  Duke Blue Devils 84, Notre Dame Irish 81
