Duke’s legendary Coach K already owns more wins than anyone in NCAA men’s basketball history. On Sunday, beloved Blue Devils’general Mike Krzyzewski will try to become the first coach in collegiate hoops history to reach 1,000 career victories if his fifth-ranked Blue Devils beat St. John’s.

"In order to win that many games, it’s taken 40 years – that’s a long time, and so you don’t win like that by being in the moment of a single-game accomplishment," he said. "You do it in the accomplishment of what you’re trying to do for an entire season."
Now, let’s find out whether he’ll get it or not.

Duke will win this matchup if
Ignore the hype about 1000!
Duke has won two straight over Louisville and Pittsburgh after dropping their previous two games against Miami and NC State. In both of their losses, the Blue Devils gave up at least 87 points while getting held to 74 points against the Hurricane and 75 points against the Wolfpack.
Duke is ranked a fantastic 10th in points per game (81.8 ppg) and is led in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage by elite freshman center Jahlil Okafor (18.6 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 67%).
The Blue Devils have also been very good at the defensive end of the floor, allowing just 63.7 points per game (125th).
St. John’s will win this matchup if
They can score 80 points or more and contain Jahlil Okafor!
The Red Storm will come into Sunday’s matchup off a thrilling 60-57 win over Marquette on Wednesday night, but they also lost four of their previous five games while getting held to 72 points or less in each defeat.
If St. John’s wants to pull off the huge upset in this matchup, then they’re going to have to find a way to score at least 80 points while containing gifted Blue Devils freshman center Jahlil Okafor.
The Red Storm does have a wonderful scorer in 6-4 senior shooting guard D’Angelo Harris and they’ll need him to play at a high level.
While St. John’s averages just 71.1 points per game, the Red Storm have a defense that has been very solid in allowing just 63.2 points per game (112th).
Who will win this matchup?
I don’t see anyway that St. John’s can pull off the upset over a refocused Duke team that looks like one of the best contenders to win the 2015 NCAA Championship.
The Blue Devils are too explosive offensively and no team has been able to find the answer to stopping Okafor, the likely No. 1 overall pick in this summer’s NBA Draft.
I like the Blue Devils to win and win going away.
