Two weeks of college basketball tournament play is over and it’s time to get down to my marquee college hoops expert picks of the week.
College Hoops Expert Picks Nov 27 – Dec 3
On Thursday, Nov. 30, can Notre Dame upset the mighty Michigan State Spartans in a road tilt? What’s going to happen when hardcore rivals Cincinnati and Xavier throw down at the Cintas Center? Will Seton Hall do enough to upset the surprising Louisville Cardinals at the KFC Yum! Center?
#13 Notre Dame at #4 Michigan State
When: Thursday, Nov. 30 at 7:00 pm ET
Where: Bresling Center, East Lansing, MI
In Notre Dame’s last game, the Irish beat Wichita State 67 to 66. What was impressive about that game is that the Irish were 2.5 dogs. Notre Dame is no slouch of a team.
But, it’s going to be very difficult for the Irish to take down the Michigan State Spartans in East Lansing. Sparty has already beaten UConn and North Carolina this season. The Spartans’ only loss was 81 to 88 to Duke on Nov. 14.
I think Michigan State covers.
Pick: Michigan State
#12 Cincinnati at #15 Xavier
When: Saturday, Dec. 2 at 12:00 pm ET
Where: Cintas Center, Cincinnati, OH
There will always be bad blood between these two college basketball teams. Xavier plays out of the Big East. Cincinnati plays out of the American Athletic Conference. It doesn’t matter. These two squads are in the same city.
We should expect both teams to give it their all. Cincinnati is ranked higher than Xavier is. But, Trevor Bluiett still plays for the Musketeers. Bluiett is one of the best players in the nation.
Xavier battles Baylor on Nov. 28 before this Dec. 2 game versus Cincinnati. I don’t see the Musketeers laying off of the Bearcats on Saturday. If you want to play against Xavier, going with the big Baylor Bears against the Musketeers makes sense.
Going against Xavier at home versus Cincinnati doesn’t.
#20 Seton Hall at #19 Louisville
When: Sunday, Dec. 3 at 4:00 pm ET
Where: KFC Yum! Center, Louisville, KY
TV: ESPN 2
The Louisville Cardinals have played well this season. Some thought the program might fall into a black hole after Louisville fired Rick Pitino. But, so far, the Cardinals are undefeated.
Being undefeated this early in the season doesn’t really mean much, though. Luckily for the Louisville Cardinals they face a team in Seton Hall that’s a terrible 2 and 4 against the spread in 6 games this season.
Seton Hall doesn’t figure to suddenly turn it up at the KFC Yum! Center. I think Louisville easily beats the Seton Hall Pirates on Sunday.
