This is a MAAC conference game with the powerful Gaels taking on the Monmouth Hawks at home, the Gaels have shown great patience in their offensive game, they have a great ability to draw defender out of the paint witch really helps for the offensive rebound. The Hawks have not had a great season this year with a 2-10 conference record they have been defensively shut down in almost every game, their lack of experience is the key factor as well as their zone to man transition which leaves the lane wide open for opposing guards.
Monmouth is not known for its basketball program but at the same time this season has been a collapse from their past, injuries suffered in the first two weeks took not only their starting point guard out for the season but their tallest center also got hurt and will miss the year. I don’t expect much from this team in this game, I suspect they will use it more as a learning opportunity because the Gaels simply have too much offense for this team to manage.
Iona comes into this game leading the conference but they also suffered this year with the lost of their starting small forwards to a broken leg, they have found security from their bench who has stepped up to the challenge. Iona still needs to make a few impressions if they hope to make it to the big dance, relying on their record might not be enough this season to help them. I have them winning this game convincingly by at least 17+ points. They need to stay aggressive and make themselves seen in this game for their ability to convert at the line as we well as cleaning up the boards on the offensive side.
