Iowa at Indiana Men’s Basketball Spread, ATS Pick & How To Watch

Two 19-10 teams hit the hard-court tonight as the 2.5-point underdog Iowa Hawkeyes travel to Bloomington, Indiana to face the Hoosiers. The game tips at 7:00 PM ET at Assemble Hall and you can watch it on ESPN and stream it on

"They’re a very difficult team to defend," Iowa coach Fran McCaffery admitted. "When you look at the collection of shooters, I think sometimes we over-analyze the fact that they have a lot of guys that can shoot. What they have is a group of guys who are willing passers so they’re loading up those guys that can shoot.

"That’s the thing that’s been most impressive to me … Those guys keep attacking and they find open people. Rarely do you see them taking contested shots, bad shots, driving into packs of people, turning the ball over, which is impressive considering it’s a young team."

Iowa Will Cover the Spread If

Iowa’s defense plays to its averages.

Iowa’s defense has to be rock solid if the Hawkeyes hope to cover the spread versus the high-scoring Indiana Hoosiers on Tuesday. These two Big Ten teams haven’t faced each other since February of 2014. In the last game, the Hawkeyes, uncharacteristically, allowed the Hoosiers to shoot 51.7% from the field and 40% from behind the three-point line.

Iowa decided to run with Indiana in last year’s battle. That led to a 93 to 86 Indiana victory. If the Hawkeyes wish to cover the spread against the Hoosiers in this matchup, they can’t get caught up in a run and gun shootout. The Hawkeyes are going to have to play defense to their averages of allowing 62 points per game from 39.3% shooting from the field and 31.6% shooting from behind the three-point line. If they get caught up in a shootout, Iowa will have trouble covering the spread.

Indiana Will Cover the Spread If

Indiana can get the Hawkeyes into a track meet.

Indiana loves to run and gun. The Hoosiers shoot 47.5% from the field on average. They shoot 41.2% from behind the three-point line and they score 78.7 points per matchup. They even give up points, 71.6 per game from 45.6% shooting from the field, in order to push opponents into the pace in which they wish to play.

It worked to perfection versus Iowa in 2014. Indiana beat the Hawkeyes 93 to 86. They hit 30 out of 58 shots from the field and 6 out of 15 from behind the three-point line. Even though Iowa out rebounded Indiana 40 to 28, the Hoosiers shot so well that they ended up winning the game and covering the 4 point spread. If Indiana wishes to cover the spread in this year’s rematch, they’re going to have to utilize the same exact strategy. Indiana is going to want to force Iowa into an up and down game. Even if the Hoosiers end up giving up 40 to 50 points in the first half, if they are hitting their shots, there will be little doubt that, just like last season, Indiana will wear down Iowa in the second half and cover the spread.

Final Score Prediction – Indiana Hoosiers 82, Iowa Hawkeyes 77
