Iowa State Will Cover the Spread If
The Cyclones can get their transition game going.
Iowa State has one of the best transition games in all of college basketball. The Cyclones love to run out and slam dunk, take open three pointers, or drive to the basket when they get defensive rebounds. When Iowa State has the transition game going, they’re almost impossible to beat.

The Cyclones face a team that is the exact opposite of them in this matchup. Oklahoma State loves to slow down the pace. So, in order for Iowa State to cover the spread in this matchup, they’re going to have to put up way more points than the 63 that they put up versus the Cowboys in the first matchup between these two. In that game, the Cowboys forced Iowa State to play their style, slow it down and work for an open shot. It really got Iowa State out of their normal flow. The Cyclones almost lost the game straight up, they beat Oklahoma State 63 to 61, as a -8.5 point home favorite.
Oklahoma State Will Cover the Spread If
Oklahoma State can force Iowa State into turnovers.
One of the issues with playing a slowdown game like what Oklahoma State prefers is that offenses, when they’re a good shooting team like Iowa State, can keep it close. That’s what happened in the first game. Everything appeared to go Oklahoma State’s way, they held Iowa State to 43.9% shooting, well below the Cyclones’ average, and they didn’t foul a lot, Iowa State shot only 12 free throws.

They even forced Iowa State into 12 turnovers, but the Cowboys still lost the game. In the rematch, Oklahoma State figures to be the favorite, which means that they’ll have to win the game in order to cover the spread. The key stat for an Oklahoma State cover and victory is to force Iowa State into even more turnovers. The Cyclones will most likely want to press the pace. Oklahoma State should take advantage of that and try to get Iowa State to turn the ball over. If Iowa State turns the ball over at least 15 times in this game, Oklahoma State is likely to cover the spread.
