Louisville will win this ACC contest if
Keep Michael Young and James Robinson in check!
Louisville (15-3 SU, 5-11-1 ATS) will have plenty of motivation coming into this contest after getting man-handled by Duke in their humbling 63-52 home loss on Saturday. The Cardinals have actually lost two of their last three, including their heartbreaking 72-71 road loss against North Carolina one week earlier.
Louisville averages a solid 72.6 points per game (74th) but has been an absolute monster at the other end of the floor, limiting their opponents to just 57.2 points per game to rank 16th in the nation.
The Cardinals are led in scoring by sophomore point guard Terry Rozier (17.4 ppg) but they’ve also got their share of ‘drama’ with leading rebounder (9.2 per) and emotional leader Montrezl Harrell recently losing his captaincy – though head coach Rick Pitino told one media member that the move would have no effect on his ballclub.
Pitino confirmed the switch to senior guard Wayne Blackshear (12.2 ppg) in a text message with the Courier-Journal’s Jeff Greer, adding that the withdrawal of Harrell’s title was "absolutely no big deal" and that "(Harrell) is still the leader of our team."
Pittsburgh will win this ACC contest if
They match Montrezl Harrell’s intensity!
Pittsburgh (13-6 SU, 4-11-1 ATS) had their modest two-game winning streak snapped in their humbling 79-65 road loss at Duke on Monday and have dropped two of their last four games overall.
The Panthers have also been held to 62 points or less in losing three of their last six games overall – and put up just 50 points in a convincing 68-50 road loss at NC State on Jan. 3.
Pittsburgh’s leading scorer, sophomore forward Michael Young averages just 13.5 points per game and leads the team in rebounding and field goal shooting percentage (7.6, 51.4 %) while junior combo guard James Robinson leads the Panthers in assists and steals (4.7 and 1.1 per).
If the Panthers want to beat the defensive-minded Cardinals, they’re almost assuredly going to have to play their best offensive game of the season.
Unfortunately, they average just 67.3 points per game (185th) while ranking 150th or worse in field goal shooting percentage and three-point shooting percentage.
Who will win this ACC tilt?
I don’t think there’s any doubt that Louisville will win this game over the offensively-challenged Panthers, making the only real question surrounding this contest is whether or not the Cardinals will cover the spread.
I’m expecting the Cardinals to be favored by about six points in this one – while winning by double digits to easily cash in! Louisville is just 1-5 ATS in its last six game, but Pittsburgh is just 1-4-1 ATS in its last half-dozen games.
I like the Louisville Cardinals to get the much-needed ATS win in this one!
