2018 March Madness Bracket Busting R64 Betting Upset Picks
No. 9 Florida State (20-11) vs. No. 8 Missouri (20-12)
When: Friday, March 16 at 9:50 PM ET
Bridgestone Arena – Nashville, TN – Game
Spread: Missouri -1
Stream: CBS Sports
52 percent of public bettors already like No. 9 Florida State to upset No. 8 Missouri in the Round of 64 opener. Despite the fact that the Seminoles got smacked around by Louisville in the ACC Tournament Wednesday and have lost three of their last four games, Florida State is still the pick here for me. Missouri has lost four of six including their SEC tourney loss against Georgia on Thursday while getting held to 66 points or less in three of those four losses.
Mizzou has beaten Kentucky and Texas A&M over their last 10 games and they might have the top pick in the upcoming NBA Draft on their roster in Michael Porter Jr., but Florida State is seriously battle-tested playing in the powerful ACC and they’ve done well in beating either current or formerly nationally-ranked teams like North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Louisville while putting up great efforts against No. 1 Virginia (59-55) and Duke (100-93). The Seminoles are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games while Missouri is 1-5 ATS in their last six non-conference games.
March Madness 64 Betting Upset Pick: Florida State +1
No. 10 Providence (21-13) vs. No. 7 Texas A&M (20-12)
When: Friday, March 16 at 12:15 PM ET
Where: Spectrum Arena – Charlotte, NC
Spread: Texas A&M -3.5
Stream: CBS Sports
Texas A&M might be 3.5-point favorites, but there’s a reason why 67 percent of public bettors are already backing the Providence Friars to cover the chalk – and it’s because they’re the far more battle-tested team in this matchup. Texas A&M has lost four of seven coming into the NCAA Tournament while Providence won three of their final four games and suffered their only loss by falling against No. 1 seed Villanova in the BIG east championship game after taking the Wildcats to overtime. While Texas A&M has beaten the likes of Kentucky and Auburn over their last 10 games,
Providence has beaten National No. 3 Xavier while also beating No. 4 Villanova on Valentine’s Day! Texas A&M is the better statistical team at both ends of the floor, but when you can beat Villanova once and take the Wildcats to OT in the next meeting, you can literally beat anyone! The Friars are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning straight up record, 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games. The Aggies 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall, 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games following a straight-up loss and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 NCAA Tournament games. I smell an upset brewing!
March Madness 64 Betting Upset Pick: Providence +3.5
No. 9 NC State (21-11) vs. No. 8 Seton Hall (21-11)
When: Thursday, March 15 at 4:30 PM ET
Where: Intrust Bank Arena – Wichita, KS
Spread: Seton Hall -2
Stream: CBS Sports
While 59 percent of public bettors are already backing Seton Hall to win and cover the chalk in this contest, I like NC State to pull off the outright upset in this round of 64 opener. The Pirates have gone 4-2 over their last six games, but are just 4-6 over their last 10 games and suffered four straight losses from Feb. 4 to Feb. 14. Despite dropping two of their last three, NC State has gone 6-4 over their last 10 games and beat, both Louisville and Florida State along the way. The Wolfpack beat Duke by 11 points at home in January, once, nationally-ranked Clemson, Top 20-ranked North Carolina and Florida State.
Seton Hall beat Louisville, Creighton and Butler earlier this season, but again, they really struggled down the stretch while losing to Xavier twice, Villanova twice and Butler in the Big East Tournament. The Pirates might be favored in this contest, but they’re also just 1-4 ATS in their last five games following an SU loss, and 0-4 ATS in their last four tournament games. NC State is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning straight up record, 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games. I’m feeling NC State for the outright win!
