March Madness East Round 1 PicksJosh Bailey
If there is a bracket-busting region in the 2017 March Madness tournament, it is the East. You will be hard-pressed to find someone who isn’t betting on No. 1 seed Villanova and No. 2 seed Duke to meet in the regional finals on Saturday, March 25, in New York. In fact, 56% of brackets picked either Villanova or Duke to reach the Final Four.¬†

March Madness East Region Round 1 ATS Picks
- Duke -19 vs Troy
Duke is on fire after winning 4 games in 4 straight days in the ACC Tournament. No team had ever done that before. I think Duke is ready for a deep run, at least to the Elite Eight, in the 2017 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Troy has no shot. Bet Duke ATS.
- Wisconsin -5.5 vs Virginia Tech
Wisconsin is just better than Virginia Tech. Sure, a hot Michigan team beat the Badgers for the Big Ten Championship, but the Badgers are still the class of the conference. They should handle the Hokies in Round 1. I am betting Wisconsin could win by as many as 10 points in this match up.
- Florida -10 vs ETSU
Florida should win this match up. But, East Tennessee St. is no easy out. The Buccaneers average 80 points a game while allowing only 69 per. Florida’s going to find it tough to keep up with ETSU’s speed. Bet ETSU ATS.
- New Mexico State vs Baylor -12
Down the stretch, Baylor wasn’t that great going 4 and 4 straight up in their last 8. The Bears went 3 and 5 ATS in their last 8. New Mexico State could win this outright. If you’re adventurous, go for it. If not, take the 12 points. I’m taking the 12 points and betting New Mexico State.
- Virginia -8.5 vs UNCW
Here’s one of those classic 12-seed versus 5-seed match ups that could go to the 12-seed. The Virginia Hokies aren’t a bad team. But, UNC-Wilmington can flat out play basketball. How does 80 points a game sound? Virginia will try to slow it down. I don’t believe they’ll have a lot of success. Bet UNCW ATS
- South Carolina -1.5 vs Marquette
Marquette plays in the much deeper conference, the Big East, as opposed to South Carolina, who plays in the SEC. My gut tells me that Marquette takes it to the Gamecocks. The Golden Eagles should win by over 10 points. Bet Marquette.
