March Madness Midwest Region Bracket Winning Picks

There is no other region that’s more difficult to call than the Midwest Region Bracket, so winning picks are worth their weight in gold. You have the defending national champion, last year’s runner-up, the only undefeated team from 2014 worth talking about and Kentucky finally playing to their potential. Let’s strike it rich together.

Thursday’s March Madness Round of 64 Midwest Region Bracket Winning Picks

#2 Michigan Wolverines -16.5 over #15 Wofford Terriers (7:10pm EST)

How adorable is woeful Wofford’s team logo? It’s an actual, sad faced terrier! This is a huge line that makes me a tad nervous, but Michigan has the firepower and – most importantly – the depth to terrorize the Terriers all night long. This is not going to be pretty, and is one of my Midwest Region Bracket winning picks without question.

#12 NC State Wolfpack over #5 Saint Louis Billikens (7:20pm EST)

You bet I’m jumping the gun here with not one, but TWO Midwest Region Bracket winning picks! I think NC State has found some magic at the right time with ACC Player of the Year, T.J. Warren, playing his best basketball. They’ll work their way past Iowa without a problem and then muscle past Saint Louis as big dogs. Saint Louis has a great defense, but even they won’t be able to stop Warren playing at his apex.

#7 Texas Longhorns -1.5 over #10 Arizona State Sun Devils (9:40pm EST)

A tight line pretty much pulled the guesswork out of this game for me, and really there’s no way I can tell you to take Arizona State since they piss their pants every time they hit the road. The Sun Devils have lost their last five away games straight up and with a narrow line, Texas can totally capitalize here and advance.

#4 Louisville Cardinals -16.0 over #13 Manhattan Jaspers (9:50pm EST)

Someone’s got to take a beating because Louisville was disrespected by the selection committee. Honestly, how are they not a one seed or at least a two seed?! Poor Manhattan. They have no chance here. Anyone touting the Jaspers in their Midwest Region Bracket winning picks doesn’t understand how rightfully enraged Russ Smith and Rick Pitino will be heading in to the 2014 NCAA Tournament. And I feel really sorry for Manhattan. I feel like I’m writing an obituary. Moving on…

Thursday’s March Madness Round of 64 Midwest Region Bracket Winning Picks

#14 Mercer Bears +13.5 over #3 Duke Blue Devils (12:15pm EST)

Duke’s a horrible bet right now. Just atrocious. The numbers are too big, the wins aren’t coming down the pipeline when you expect them and their defense leaves a whole lot to be desired. They’re 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 games! Mercer may not be a team you fully trust as a betting entity, but Duke has not been able to blow opponents out of the water for quite some time. I’m genuinely concerned about Duke in the 2014 NCAA Tournament. They’re due for an early exit.

#6 UMass Minutemen over #11 Tennessee Volunteers (2:45pm EST)

Yup! Gun jumping one more time! I love Tennessee over Xavier, but after that I’m going with UMass in the Round of 64. The reason they’re a great Midwest Region Bracket winning pick is their energy. They’ll crash the board, hustle on defense and run Tennessee in to the floor.

#1 Wichita State Shockers over #16 Cal Poly (or whoever) (7:10pm EST)

Simply put, Wichita State KILLS bad teams on a routine basis. They did it throughout the season, throughout the MVC Tourney and have routinely outrun awful squads with relative ease. Don’t’ worry about them as a Midwest Region Bracket winning pick in the Round of 64, but once they start running to decent competition, we’re going to see how good they are. And trust me – they’re very, very good and worthy of a long term investment as national title winners in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.

Getting used to winning and playing with a lead are all instinctual to Wichita State at this point, and they’re a number-one seed because they’ve pounded opponents throughout the year. And if you don’t believe that they’re capable of moving on strong in March Madness, then you’ve completely forgotten what happened last year.

#8 Kentucky Wildcats -5.0 over #9 Kansas State Wildcats (9:40pm EST)

If there’s any team that saw tournament play bring out the best in them during championship week, it’s Kentucky. They demolished LSU and Georgia before barely losing to Florida by a single-point, which also meant a scintillating second-half comeback after they were smashed in the first half. Julius Randle is finally responding the adversity he faces in the post, while the Harrison twins are taking over games. Kansas State has gone a miserable 3-5 SU and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games and literally have no legs to stand on. That’s why Kentucky is a Midwest Region Bracket winning pick in the Round of 64 despite a season worth of letdowns.
