March Madness Midwest Round 1 Picks

The Midwest Region is deep. Iowa State is a 5-seed. What it means is that the Cyclones could end up facing rival 1 Kansas in the Sweet 16. Oregon is the 3-seed while Big Ten Tournament Champion Michigan got the 7, and Louisville got the 2.

March Madness Midwest Region Round 1 ATS Picks

  • Louisville -20 vs Jacksonville State
I love how Louisville goes into the NCAA Tournament. Although Duke beat Louisville in the ACC Tournament, Rick Pitino’s squad has the requisite inside/outside game to excel against anyone in the Midwest Region. Louisville rolls in Round 1.
  • Iowa State -6 vs Nevada
I know that Iowa State is a 5 and Nevada is a 12. Yes, Nevada is getting a ton of love from the sharps. But, the way that Iowa State won the Big 12 Championship was impressive. I believe the Cyclones rock Nevada in this match up. Bet Iowa State.
  • Purdue -8.5 vs Vermont
How good is Purdue? I’m not sure. I do believe that the Boilermakers beat Vermont by at least 10 points due to Purdue’s excellent inside game. They should cover versus Vermont without much problem. Round 2 could be a different story for Boilermakers, though. Bet Purdue in this Midwest Region Round 1 tilt.
  • Oregon -14.5 vs Iona
Iona runs and guns. The Gaels start 4 guards to go along with a 6’ 8” forward. Oregon should win, but Iona should score enough to keep this one under the number. The Gaels should have no trouble penetrating and dishing to open shooters all day. Bet on Iona.
  • Miami-FL -2 vs Michigan State
It was a down season for Michigan State. The Spartans were supposed to contend for the Big Ten Championship. They finished with a 19 and 14 record. Could Sparty surprise? They could. The more likely scenario is that Miami-FL uses their ACC experience to beat Michigan State by over 10. Bet Miami-FL to beat Michigan State.
  • Michigan -2.5 vs Oklahoma State
I’m not as in love with Michigan as everyone else is. Over 70% of college basketball handicappers back Michigan in this game versus Oklahoma State. Not me. I like the Cowboys who play in the much tougher conference, the Big 12, than Michigan. Bet Oklahoma State over Michigan.
  • Creighton -1 vs URI
Rhode Island goes into the NCAA Tournament having won their last 8 games. They went 6 and 2 ATS in those last 8 games. I like Creighton, but they face a tough squad in Rhode Island in Round 1. I’m backing URI.
