March Madness R64 Betting Analysis

Midwest Region – #10 Seton Hall vs #7 Wofford
When: Thursday, March 21 at TBD
Where: Veterans Memorial Arena, Jacksonville, FL
TV: CBS
Stream: CBSsports.com
Odds: Wofford -3

Betting Analysis: This is how awesome college basketball is. The Wofford Terriers are not only a higher seed than the Seton Hall Pirates, but they’re favored over Seton Hall. The Pirates lost in the Big East Championship to the Villanova Wildcats. You’d think they’d be favored, but here’s Wofford, showing up the Hall.

There are reasons why the Terriers are favored. While Seton Hall battled some strong teams in the Big East, Wofford’s losses were to Oklahoma, Kansas, Mississippi State, and North Carolina. Those are 4 NCAA Tournament teams.

Not only that, the Terriers ride a 20-game winning streak into the tournament and went 10-4 ATS in away games this season. Wofford is 11-1 ATS in their last 12. The Pirates will have trouble with Wofford’s speed. The Terriers cover.

Pick: Wofford Terriers

South Region – #10 Iowa vs #7 Cincinnati
When: Friday, March 19 at TBD
Where: University of Dayton Arena, Dayton, OH
TV: CBS
Stream: CBSsports.com
Odds: Cincinnati -3.5

Betting Analysis: This should be one of the easiest games of Round 1. Cincinnati not only takes on a team that doesn’t match up all that well with them, but they get to battle them in Dayton, right down the street from their school.

The Bearcats beat Houston 69-71 in the American Athletic Conference Tournament Championship. That tells you how well Cincinnati’s playing. Jarron Cumberland will be one of the top players in the tournament. Iowa has nobody who can match up with Cumberland.

The Hawkeyes are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 NCAA Tournament games and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games following an ATS loss. Cincinnati easily covers on Friday.

Pick: Cincinnati Bearcats

Midwest Region – #11 Ohio State vs #6 Iowa State
When: Friday, March 22 at TBD
Where: Bank of Oklahoma Center, Tulsa, OK
TV: TBS
Odds: Iowa State -6.5

Betting Analysis: Here’s the second easiest pick in Round 1. The Cyclones dominated the Big 12 Tournament when beating Baylor, Kansas State, and Kansas. Iowa State is peaking at the right time. They held Kansas to only 66 points.

Not only that, but Ohio State’s not a very good team. It’s surprising that they even got a bid. No matter, the Cyclones will rough up a Buckeyes squad that’s gone 0-8 ATS in their last 8 NCAA Tournament games and only shoots 43.7% from the field.

Pick: Iowa State Cyclones

Midwest Region – #9 Washington vs #8 Utah State
When: Friday, March 22 at TBD
Where: Nationwide Arena, Columbus, OH
TV: TBD
Odds: Utah State -3.5

Betting Analysis: The Pac 12 wasn’t very good this season. The only team that’s playing well heading into the NCAA Tournament are the Oregon Ducks. That’s why not only should you consider backing St. John’s over Arizona State on Wednesday, you should also consider backing Utah State over Washington on Friday.

The Aggies average 79.2 points while allowing 66.8. They’ve won 10 in a row heading into the tournament and are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following an ATS win. Utah State should easily cover.

Pick: Utah State
