The Michigan State Spartans will win this Big 12 matchup if
They close the game strong!
If the Michigan State Spartans want to beat the Maryland Terrapins and get some revenge for their 68-66 overtime loss to the Terps on Dec. 30, then they’re going to have to finish off Maryland in regulation.
While the Spartans beat Northwestern 84-77 to win in overtime on Sunday, Michigan State had last three times in its previous nine games, falling to their opponents each time in overtime.

Tom Izzo’s ball club is led in scoring and assists by guard Travis Trice (14.3 ppg, 6.2 apg) and gets a team-leading 5.9 rebounds per game from Matt Costello. The Spartans have been held to less than 70 points in two of their last three losses, including their defeat against the Terps.
The Maryland Terrapins will win this Big 12 matchup if
They clog up the paint on the defensive end.
Maryland has won two straight and four of its last five games for head coach Mark Turgeon, including their impressive 73-65 win over Rutgers on Wednesday night. The Terps have gotten the job done with defense, holding each of their last five opponents to 66 points or less. If Maryland wants to win this contest, they’re going to need to play the same kind of defense they have in recent weeks.
Maryland allows just 61.6 points per game (70th) and has been even more impressive in limiting their opponents to just 37.3 percent shooting from the field (18th) and just 28.3 percent from three-point distance (18th).
The Terps are led in scoring and assists by Melo Trimble (15.7 ppg, 3.0 apg) while getting team highs in rebounding and field goal shooting from big man Jake Lyman (6.7 rpg, 50.6 percent).

Will Michigan State or Maryland win this Big 12 matchup?
I’m expecting Michigan State to battle their hearts out in this contest, but in the end, I like Maryland to get the narrow home win, if not necessarily the ATS cover.
I think the Terps will be favored in this contest by approximately 4-6 points and I’m predicting a narrow ATS cover if the odds stay closer to two or three points. If the point spread moves closer to a half-dozen points, I’m backing the Spartans to cash in!
