Northern Iowa Vs Louisville Against the Point Spread Prediction & TV Info

The fifth-seeded and very under-rated Northern Iowa Panthers are 1.5-point favorites over the highly over-rated and fourth-seeded Louisville Cardinals in this round-of-32 March Madness tilt.

Northern Iowa owns Division I’s fourth-best scoring defense and held strong in their R64 double-digit victory over Wyoming . This stellar Panthers’ defense meets Louisville’s average dual-threat offense, since with the dismissal of guard Chris Jones, the Cardinals principally run through Montrezl Harrel and Terry Rozier, with small veteran contributions from Wayne Blackshear.

The Panthers offense begins and ends with Seth Tuttle. A 6-foot-8 forward that averages 15.3 points per game and nearly seven rebounds, Tuttle is a valuable matchup nightmare that will fully embody Northern Iowa’s ups and downs.

Northern Iowa Will Cover the 1.5-point Spread If

The Panthers play as a team for the entire game.

Northern Iowa was one of the most impressive teams in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Panthers beat Wyoming 71 to 54 by playing exceptional defense and finding balance on offense.
As to be expected, Player of the Year candidate Seth Tuttle was terrific. He scored 14 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished 3 assists. But Tuttle wasn’t alone.

Deon Mitchell scored 10 points. Wes Washpun scored 10. Nate Buss scored 13 and Paul Jesperson scored 16. What’s incredible is that Washpun, Buss and Jesperson don’t even start. If Northern Iowa can continue to have 5 players score in double-figures each game and 2 to 3 of those players come from off the bench, forget about covering the spread versus Louisville. Northern Iowa and its fans are going to start having to think about the Final Four.

UNI Projected March Madness Starting Lineup:

  • Marvin Singleton (F)
  • Seth Tuttle (F)
  • Matt Bohannon (G)
  • Deon Mitchell (G)
  • Jeremy Morgan (G)

Louisville Will Cover the 1.5-point Spread If

Louisville doesn’t get caught up in Northern Iowa’s methodical strategy.

Northern Iowa has a great style of lulling their opponents to sleep. It actually happened to Wyoming who cut the deficit to 6 points in the fist half only to end up losing by 17 at the end of the game.
By the time Wyoming knew that Northern Iowa was ahead by so many points, the game was over. The Panthers’ defense is one of the best in the nation because it gives the illusion of being soft when in reality it almost always ends up forcing opponents to take bad shots. For Louisville to cover the spread, their two best players, Terry Rozier and Montrezl Harrell, are going to have to play with abandon.

They’re going to have to push the pace against Northern Iowa and prevent the Panthers from getting into their ultra-effective half-court defense. Louisville didn’t push the pace versus the University of California-Irvine in the first round of the tournament. They barely beat UCI 57 to 55 as an 8.5 point favorite.

Louisville Projected March Madness Starting Lineup:

  • G Terry Rozier, 6-1, So., 17.0 ppg, 5.4 rpg
  • G Quentin Snider 6-2, Fr., 3.2 ppg, 1.3 rpg
  • F Montrezl Harrell, 6-8, Jr., 15.8 ppg, 9.4 rpg
  • F Wayne Blackshear, 6-5, Sr., 10.7 ppg, 4.3 rpg
  • C Chinanu Onuaku, 6-10 Fr., 3.4 ppg, 4.9 rpg
  • Coach: Rick Pitino (14th season)
