Can Streaking No. 4 Musketeers Avoid Home Upset Against Struggling No. 3 Wildcats in Huge Big East Battle?
The streaking fourth-ranked Xavier Musketeers will look to avoid the home upset against the struggling, third-ranked Villanova Wildcats when the two rivals square off in their absolutely huge Big East battle on Saturday.
Now, let’s find out what’s going to go down when these two legitimate national championship contenders square off this coming weekend.
Villanova Wildcats Vs Xavier Musketeers Betting Tips & Final Score Prediction
Third-ranked Villanova has dropped two of its last three games to fall from the top-ranked team in the nation to third overall. The Wildcats are coming off a humbling 76-71 loss against Providence on Wednesday night exactly one week after losing to unranked St. John’s 79-75.
"They just outplayed us. We were ready to go. They were just better," Villanova coach Jay Wright said. "I thought we would have played a little bit better. We didn’t."
Mikal Bridges scored a team-high 19 points before fouling out with just over a minute remaining while point guard Jalen Brunson added 14 points. Still, it wasn’t enough as Providence held off several furious charges by Villanova.
"They were just really physical," Brunson said. "We were giving up the ball. You gotta be strong with the ball."
On the flip side of the coin, red-hot Xavier has won nine straight games and comes into their weekend showdown off a convincing 102-90 win over Seton Hall on Wednesday night as superstar point guard Trevon Bluiett followed his worst shooting performance of the season one game earlier against Creighton with a stupendous 37-point performance.
"I just wanted to be aggressive from the beginning," Bluiett said. "I don’t think it was anything different, just our regular game plan and me staying aggressive."
Xavier leads the Big East by a game and a half after the Wildcats’ 76-71 loss at Providence earlier Wednesday.
"Very fortunate," coach Chris Mack said. "We’ve got a big one on Saturday."
Villanova pounded the hell out of then, No. 10 Xavier 89-65 at home on January 10 and even though I’m not expecting another cakewalk win in this contest with Xavier being at home, I am going to urge you to back the desperate Wildcats to get their act together in this huge matchup.
Villanova is a far more balanced team than Xavier, who needs a fantastic effort almost every time out from Trevon Bluiett. That offensive balance, combined with the fact that the Cats are now in ‘desperation mode’ will carry them to the ‘upset’ road win in this contest, although I an expecting Xavier to put up a real fight before falling.
Final Score Prediction: Villanova 81 Xavier 77
