Oregon Will Cover the 11-point March Madness Spread If
The Ducks’ push the pace and get shots in transition.
The point spread in Oregon’s game versus Oklahoma State was Oklahoma State -1. The thinking for many basketball handicappers was that Oklahoma State’s defense might be able to pull an Arizona. Oregon lost in the Pac-12 Championship game to Arizona 52 to 80. Oklahoma State’s defense was one of the best in the Big 12.

But Oregon put up 79 against the Cowboys in a 79 to 73 win. The Ducks forced the Cowboys to play their fast-paced game. Point-guard Joseph Young, the Pac-12 Player of the Year, scored 27 points. He was 3 out of 6 from the three-point line. He also dished 4 assists and grabbed 4 rebounds. Although Wisconsin is capable of playing fast, Oregon has to press the pace because that is the only way that the Ducks can be effective against the 1 seed in the West Region.

Wisconsin Will Cover the 11-point March Madness Spread If
Wisconsin’s defense can shut down Joseph Young.
Wisconsin’s 92 to 54 win over Coastal Carolina in the first round has to be considered the most impressive performance of the any of the 1 seeds. Villanova was fantastic but what Wisconsin did defensively to Coastal Carolina should send shock waves to not only the rest of the West Region but to the Southeast Region as well since the winner of the Southeast could potentially face Wisconsin in the Final Four.

The Badgers dominated Coastal Carolina by holding the Chanticleers to under 40% shooting from the field and 33.3% shooting from the three-point line. Wisconsin dominated Oregon on the boards as well. The Badgers out rebounded Coastal Carolina 37 to 23. It seemed like they turned every rebound into points on offense. If Wisconsin wants to move on to the Sweet 16, they will need to play that same sort of defense against Joseph Young, the Pac-12 Player of the Year. Oregon’s offense revolves around the terrific point-guard. If Wisconsin stops Young, they’ll cover the spread against Oregon.
