Picking College Basketball's Winning Bets Dec 14th-20th

Picking College Basketball’s Winning Bets Dec 14th-20th

All of this week’s best college basketball bets are on Saturday. It makes sense since bowl season in college football also starts this Saturday.

There’s not a lot of competition for college hoops. My first best bet takes place when Villanova travels to Virginia. Both of these teams have a shot at the Final Four in 2016. Utah battles Duke on Saturday in my second best bet of the week. That’s a rematch of the Elite Eight game between these two in last year’s NCAA Tournament. Also on Saturday, is a classic matchup between legendary North Carolina and legendary UCLA.

Picking College Basketball’s Best Winning Bets Dec 14th-20th

No. 6 Villanova at No. 10 Virginia
When:  Saturday, Dec. 19

Villanova has a 7 and 1 record while Virginia has an 8 and 1 record. As expected the Wildcats of Villanova have a very good defense. It allows only 57.6 points per game, ranking it 7th in points allowed. Virginia’s defense allows 57.1 points per game, ranking it 4th in college basketball. The difference between these two teams is in shooting percentage defense. Villanova allows 35.7% from the field while Virginia allows 40.5% from the field. Villanova is the better team. They should come out on top against Virginia even though they take on the Cavaliers on the road.

Pick: Villanova

No. 24 Utah vs No. 5 Duke
When: Saturday, Dec. 19

7 and 1 to start the week Utah is sort of a paper tiger. The Utes’ best win was beating BYU 83 to 75 on Dec. 2. Their worst loss was in their last game, a 50 to 67 thrashing at the hands of very good Wichita State. The Utes allow an average of 43.5% from the field per game. Teams score 73 points per game against Utah. Duke averages 86 points per game. Grayson Allen is averaging 21.8 points and 3 assists per matchup. Allen, Brandon Ingram, and Matt Jones make up a three-headed guard monster that’s starting to play like what Coach K envisioned. Expect the Blue Devils to win this one by a wide margin. Utah has no shot of keeping up with Duke’s excellent starting guards.

Pick: Duke

No. 3 North Carolina vs UCLA
When:  Saturday, Dec. 19

As expected, North Carolina found the going tough against Texas, a team that has finally embraced Shaka Smart’s run and gun philosophy. The Tar Heels lost 82 to 84 to the Longhorns on Dec. 12. It doesn’t get any easier against UCLA. The Bruins are on a 4 game winning streak to start the week. The 4 wins include beating Kentucky at home 87 to 77 on Dec. 3 and beating Gonzaga 71 to 66 on the road on Dec. 12. The Bruins are a very good team but it’s going to be tough for them to keep up with North Carolina’s offense, which averages 84 points per game while shooting close to 50% from the field and 36% from the three-point line. NC should win this battle.

Pick: North Carolina
