Pittsburgh at Virginia Line, Free Pick & How To WatchJosh Bailey
The surprising Pittsburgh Panthers are looking to earn their third victory against a ranked team under three weeks when they visit the second-ranked Virginia Cavaliers on Monday in an ACC tilt from Charlottesville, Virginia.

The Panthers knocked off 11th-ranked Notre Dame on Jan. 31 and followed that up by beating 15th-ranked North Carolina by a score of 89-76 on Saturday for their fourth win in the last five games.
“We already have shifted the focus. We are moving on to Virginia,” Pitt head-coach Jamie Dixon said. “What they’ve done defensively speaks for itself. We understand that and have to guard them well to make them take jump shots. We’ll do everything we can to get ready.”
The Cavaliers may be running out of steam as Virginia’s last three games, all wins, were within one possession in the final minute, and hosting resurgent Pittsburgh today with a short turnaround could be treacherous for the Cavaliers.

Pittsburgh Will Cover the 7-point Spread If
The Panthers can get over their road woes.
So far, the road has not been kind to Pittsburgh. Out of the Panthers’ 9 losses, 5 of them have been on the road. Out of those 7 losses, Pittsburgh was favored in 2 of the games. The Panthers lost to Hawaii 70 to 74 as a -12.5 point favorite. They dropped a game to Virginia Tech in overtime by a 67 to 70 score as a -5 point favorite. When it comes to covering the spread, forget it. Pitt just isn’t a very good road team either straight up or ATS.
The Panthers struggle on the road. That could be a big issue for them traveling to Virginia to take on the mighty Cavaliers. Virginia’s defense is one of the best in all of college hoops. Pittsburgh has to get over their road woes to have any shot at covering the spread against the Cavs.

Virginia Will Cover the 7-point Spread If
The defense does its job.
Without Justin Anderson, Virginia might find things more difficult on the defensive end. Anderson could definitely score, but he’s such a big guard that he often times makes it difficult for opposing offenses to penetrate and he’s excellent at double teaming another team’s big men on the blocks.
Anderson’s absence might have an effect on Virginia’s ability to cover in this matchup unless the rest of the team steps it up on the defensive end. Pittsburgh can score; they have decent inside players in Michael Young and Jamel Artis, which means that someone on Virginia’s squad is going to have to help out Young and Artis. The Pittsburgh guards aren’t very good at shooting the three; Josh Newkirk is at 34.5% while James Robinson shoots 30.9%. If Virginia can keep Pitt’s inside game from putting up points, they should be able to cover the spread in this matchup.
