Villanova’s Senior Night will feature a tilt against freshly ranked Providence.
With a win the Villanova Wildcats will be assured a share of the coveted Big East title along with amping up the atmosphere for their Senior sendoff. How lucky are the Wildcats? A win over the newly ranked (even though at 25) Friars will give Villanova the extra juice to be selected as a top seed for March Madness.
Providence will love to play spoiler tonight after losing to Villanova almost two weeks ago. Since then the Friars have won two straight holding both opponents to 35.3 percent shooting while forcing an average of 17.5 turnovers after Villanova shot 50.0 percent.

Providence Will Cover the Spread If
The Friars can play better on the defensive end of the court.
Providence, in most games, is a very good defensive team. The Friars allow only 64.9 points per game off of 42% shooting from the field. Opponents shoot 31.6% from behind the three-point line versus the Friars. What happened with Providence’s defense on Feb. 11, the first time that they faced Villanova?
In that game, the Friars yielded 74 points, around 9 more than their average points yielded, off of 50% shooting from the field and 35% shooting from behind the three-point line. That’s an incredible percentage allowed from the field. What’s scary is that Providence held Villanova’s top scorer, Darrun Hilliard, to 5 out of 13 from the field. The other Wildcats stepped it up. The only way for Providence to cover in this game is to hold Villanova to less than 50% shooting from the field while still playing tough defense on Hilliard.
Villanova Will Cover the Spread If
Villanova can increase the rebounding difference from the first game.
Yes, Villanova covered the spread in the first game, but they didn’t cover by a very large margin. In fact, the spread was ‘Nova -4 points and the Wildcats beat the Friars 74 to 68. So, Villanova covered the spread by a measly 2 points.

Basketball handicappers should expect the Friars’ defense to hold the Wildcats to less than 50% from the field this time around, meaning that in order for Villanova to cover the spread as a much bigger favorite at home, they’re probably going to have to increase the rebounding difference. In the first game, ‘Nova only out rebounded the Friars by 3, 25 to 22. Villanova has to increase the difference to at least 6 rebounds, which is their average, 34 to 28, if not more rebounds. The Wildcats also have to garner more offensive rebounds in this contest since all they did in the first was grab 8 offensive boards. If Villanova can increase the difference in rebounding by more than 6, they should cover the spread.
