Gonzaga Bulldogs vs. BYU Cougars

A Real Test For The Bulldogs And Their 25th Spot

Gonzaga just made it last week and stayed in the top 25 of the country, but that spot is very easy to lose and a win does not guarantee they will stay there, the Cougars know they more than likely will not make the ranking this season but they have the ability to beat the Bulldogs as well as with a good showing in this game even if they lose it might be enough to knock them out of the top 25. For Gonzaga this is a conference game in the WCC so they know each other well, they have to really smell blood in the water and be as physical as they can around the rim.

Gonzaga has always been around but really never made a big dent in the college basketball scene, they are considered a great program but inconsistent down the stretch, they have sent some decent players off to the NBA but do not have the respect I think they want from other power house programs like Kansas, Duke and Syracuse. In order to stay ranked they have to push the ball on offense and press the ball on defense, running the floor will allow them to catch BYU off guard while pressing them from half court will really tier them out and force turnovers.

BYU is known for one thing in college basketball, they have very tall and skilled inside post players, they defend well and make great choices but they are not a fast pace team, they rather walk the ball up the court and set up their plays. They know they will be pressed in this game so they need to work on controlling the ball and passing it around looking for the open player either on the wing or in the paint. I have the Bulldogs winning this game but only by 4 or 5 points, I think they will knock out of the top 25 next week because of a weak showing in this game.
