Round of 64 College Hoops Tourney Betting Odds For Friday’s Late GamesNoah Williams
If you’re looking for some catch-up plays to end the Round of 64, I have four free picks on college hoops tourney betting odds involving Friday’s late games. I’m just as shocked as you’re going to be that I’m backing the two unknown commodities out of the Carolinas. Let’s get to the matchups.
Round of 64 College Hoops Tourney Betting Odds For Friday’s Late Games
#16 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers +21.5 over #1 Virginia Cavaliers (9:25pm EST)
This is another game I have gone back and forth on, and the number in this 1-vs-16 matchup totally terrifies me. The misconception about the Cavaliers is that they’re this wild scoring team, but Virginia is the type of program that usually wins with defense, which means that they happily grind out opponents by limiting what they can do offensively while doing “just enough” to get the win on the other end. Coastal Carolina is also 4-1 ATS on the season, and have the benefit of massive college hoops tourney betting odds in this one, which gives me reason to back them despite the Cavaliers’ play this entire year. I wouldn’t throw a ton at this game financially, but if you’re going to attack it at all I’d take the Chanticleers. And yes, that’s probably the only time I’ll ever write that last sentence in my career.
#8 Kentucky Wildcats -6.0 over #9 Kansas State Wildcats (9:40pm EST)
It’s easy to forget that Kentucky began the season as the top ranked team in the polls because they had an awful, up-and-down season. But tournament style play has seemingly brought out the best in Kentucky which is flat out peaking at the perfect moment in the season. Julius Randle is a force of nature, and a top-5 pick in this year’s NBA Draft, and can muscle Kentucky to a deafening victory while overcoming the college hoops tourney betting odds against Kansas State.
I also don’t think KSU is entering this game with any momentum. They’ve lost their last three games, gone 2-6 ATS in their past 8 and don’t travel all that well. Kentucky is not a one man team either, and KSU will have trouble spreading the floor to stop them defensively. They’ve allowed 81.3 points against in their last three losses. Kentucky is going to kill them.
#14 NCCU Eagles +8.0 over #3 Iowa State Cyclones (9:50pm EST)
I have admittedly flip-flopped on this game about a dozen times because I love Iowa State’s energy, but I adore Jeremy Ingram of the NCCU Eagles. He’s coming off a 29-point performance against Morgan State and leads the team with 20.8 points per game overall. His titanic scoring finesses has led the Eagles to a 77.8 points per game average as a team, and his two-way play has also pushed them on the defensive end where the Eagles lock opponents down to just 58.5 points against.
Now, I totally understand that any hype I generate about Ingram and the Eagles can be immediately stifled by the fact that they’ve never played a team as strong as Iowa State, but I believe in them. And the college hoops tourney betting odds on this one make it an inviting take with Ingram involved. Iowa State is an engaging and strong team but they’re also not a great, overall betting team and are 6-4 ATS in their last 10. That includes a 4-0 ATS run in their last four, but I think they’ll take NCCU too lightly out of the gates and give the Eagles too much life early on.
#4 UCLA Bruins -8.5 over #13 Tulsa Hurricane (9:57pm EST)
The last game of the day features one of the most underrated teams in the entire college hoops tourney as the UCLA Bruins take on Tulsa. Both of these teams have been stalwarts against the betting line, with UCLA going a stiff 4-1 ATS in their last five on route to winning the Pac -12 tournament and Tulsa going an emphatic 9-1 ATS while remaining undefeated in their last 10 games. Those are great trends for both teams.
But UCLA has a ton of bite in them on both ends of the floor. They’ve struggled against double digit lines, but this one has been hovering in the high singles for the entire week. The Bruins can certainly carry the momentum from their conference tournament victories to defy the college hoops tourney betting odds ands squash Tulsa, which doesn’t have the size to match up with UCLA and stir the pot like others believe.
