2015 Sweet Sixteen Parlay Picks

After six-days of March Madness betting action, we get a bit of a breather for this years crop of Sweet Sixteen teams prepare for their next battle.

The bracket-busting madness came early for those hoping for a perfect bracket and for those who put money on high-seeded blue chip programs. There were two upsets of No. 3 seeds on Thursday — Georgia State shocking Baylor and UAB stunning Iowa State — and kept on coming — with No. 1 Villanova falling to N.C. State and No. 2 Virginia getting ousted by Michigan State in the round of 32.

A few of the remaining for you to parlay in the Sweet 16 round were expected: Kentucky is undefeated; Duke steamrolled. Surprises: UCLA, after many believed it didn’t deserve its bid to the tournament at all, advanced to its second Sweet 16 in a row.

Sweet 16 Two-Team Parlay Picks

  • Michigan State            -1.5
  • Arizona                       -11

Michigan State vs. Oklahoma
When:  Friday

Analysis: Oklahoma’s top player, Buddy Heild, continues to struggle. Heild was good on only 4 out of 13 shots from the field versus Dayton. He hit on only 1 out of 6 from the 3 point line.

Michigan State’s best guard, Tyrone Trice, isn’t having any such issues. Trice played 39 minutes in Michigan State’s 60 to 54 win versus Virginia. Trice scored 23 points, grabbed 2 boards and dished 3 assists. He’ll be the reason that Michigan State covers the spread in this matchup.

Sweet 16 Pick: Michigan State -1.5

Xavier vs. Arizona
When: Thursday

Analysis: This betting line seems awfully high until basketball handicappers take a close look at Arizona’s win over San Diego State. The Wildcats didn’t shoot very well at all. They were good only 36.5% from the field and 36.8% from three.

But what Arizona did is hold Ohio State to 29.4% from three and they took 11 more shots from the field than the Buckeyes. Xavier is better inside than Ohio State, but they have nobody who can keep T.J. McConnell from penetrating and dishing. If they commit to stopping those McCopnnell, Stanley Johnson, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Brandon Ashley and Gabe York will score from all over the court.

Sweet 16 Pick: Arizona -11

Sweet 16 Three-Team Parlay Picks

  • Michigan State            -1.5
  • Arizona                       -11
  • Wichita State               PK

Notre Dame vs. Wichita State
When:  Thursday

Analysis: Notre Dame is going to be in some trouble in this Thursday matchup. The Irish have great shooters. Wichita State has great shooters as well. Notre Dame’s defense has been playing better. Wichita State has one of the top defenses in the NCAA Tournament.

Jerian Grant is the best overall player. Fred VanVleet is the best point guard. The supporting casts are almost a wash but the best player on either side is after VanVleet and Grant is Ron Baker. The sharpshooter will counter anything that Pat Connaughton for the Irish does. Wichita State also has a Mr. Do Everything in Evan Wessel. They’ll beat Notre Dame on Thursday night.

Sweet 16 Pick: Wichita State PK

Sweet 16 Four-Team Parlay Picks

  • Michigan State            -1.5
  • Arizona                       -11
  • Wichita State               PK
  • Duke                           -4.5

Duke vs. Utah
When:  Friday

Analysis: Utah has been terrific during this tournament. The Utes’ defense held Stephen F. Austin to 50 points. Utah’s offense shot over 57% from both three and the field versus Georgetown in a 75 to 64 win. What Utah, UCLA, Arizona, and Oregon are showing is that basketball handicappers totally misjudged the Pac-12. The Conference was ultra-solid this season.

But Utah faces a guard tandem of Quinn Cook and Tyus Jones in Duke that they’re going to have tons of trouble with. If they commit to stopping Cook and Jones, Jahlil Okafor in the paint and Justise Wilson slashing to the basket are going to hurt Utah. The Utes will make it close but in the end, Duke should cover the spread.

Sweet 16 Pick: Duke -4.5
