The NCAA Men’s College Basketball Tournament saw the biggest March Madness betting upset in history. On day two, unknown 16th-seeded UMBC shocked the nation, trouncing Virginia 74-54 to become the first No. 16 seed ever to beat a No. 1 seed.
Are there any March Madness betting upsets remaining when the Sweet 16 duke it out to be crowned national champion? Let’s find out.
2018 Sweet 16 Upset Picks
The first must bet 2018 Sweet 16 upset pick tips on Thursday, March 22nd at Phillips Arena in Atlanta, GA. Nevada will have to contend with Loyola-Chicago. Then what are the odds Florida State can upset Gonzaga? Finally, can top-seeded Kansas hold off an upset from Syracuse?
#11 Loyola-Chicago vs #7 Nevada
When: Thursday, March 22 at 7:07 pm ET
Where: Phillips Arena, Atlanta, GA
Odds: Loyola-Chicago +2
Analysis: Most college basketball handicappers believe the Nevada Wolf Pack covers the 2-points versus the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers. The reason is because Loyola-Chicago has won 2 games by the slimmest of margins.
However, Nevada needed overtime to beat Texas 87 to 83 in Round 1. In Round 2, Nevada beat Cincinnati 75 to 73 in a game that could have gone either way. The Wolf Pack aren’t blowing out teams.
Loyola-Chicago will have a shot at the money line upset.
#9 Florida State vs #4 Gonzaga
When: Thursday, March 22 at 10:07 pm ET
Where: Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA
Odds: Gonzaga -5.5
Analysis: FSU has been as impressive as any team in the NCAA Tournament. The Seminoles put a sweet 67 to 54 beat down onto Missouri in Round 1. Florida State then provided one of the biggest shocks of the NCAA Tournament when they took down #1 Xavier 75 to 70.
As a -13.5 favorite against the spread, the Gonzaga Bulldogs weren’t supposed to beat UNC-Greensboro by only 4 points. That’s what the Zags did in Round 1. They took down UNC-Greensboro 68 to 64.
The Zags beat Ohio State 90 to 84 n Round 2. Gonzaga had to manage a furious rally to win. Ohio State is a decent team. I don’t believe Ohio State is better than Florida State.
FSU should win this game straight up.
Pick: Florida State
#5 Clemson vs #1 Kansas
When: Friday, March 23 at 7:07 pm ET
Where: CenturyLink Center Omaha, Omaha, NE
Analysis: Kansas has proven to be only one of two #1-seeds to make it into the Sweet 16. It’s been business as usual for the Jayhawks so far during this tournament.
Kansas beat Pennsylvania 76 to 60. They beat Seton Hall 83 to 79. Seton Hall is a decent basketball team. Kansas probably should have beaten the pirates by more than 4 points, though.
Clemson beat New Mexico State 79 to 68. That pummeled Auburn 84 to 53. I’m putting an asterisk next to the Auburn win. The reason is because I never thought Auburn was that good of a college basketball team.
However, Clemson is a good basketball team. I’ll back the Clemson Tigers to upset Rock Chalk on Friday.
All March Madness games can be streamed via CBS Sports.
