Sweet Sixteen Betting Picks For The West Region

Sweet Sixteen Betting Picks For The West Region

No. 4 San Diego State will look to extract some big-time revenge when they take on top-seeded Arizona in their West Regional semifinal when it gets underway on Thursday night.

You see, the Wildcats handed the Aztecs their first loss of the season back on Nov. 14, though it did fuel a 20-game winning streak by Steve Fisher’s ballclub.

Now, two of the best teams in the west will go at it again in March Madness and I am here to give you my Sweet Sixteen betting pick.

#4 San Diego State and #1 Arizona will hit the hard-court with a trip to the Elite Eight on the line.
Starts: 03/27/2014 10:20PM

Anaheim, California

Why San Diego State Can Win The East Regional Semis

The Aztecs will win this matchup because they have an outstanding defense – and a great head coach even if the venerable Steve Fisher doesn’t get the same media attention of some of his bigger name brethren.

San Diego State has not allowed any opponent to reach the 70-point plateau since Air Force did so against them on Jan. 12. The Aztecs finished second in the nation in points allowed (56.6), eighth in defensive field goal percentage (38.3) and second in three-point field goal defense, holding their opponents to a pitiful 28.5 percent shooting mark from beyond the arc.

Could the Aztecs Go…To The Elite Eight?

If San Diego State gets past Arizona in this contest, is anything out of the realm of possibility? I think not! No, if the Aztecs win this contest, I think they could beat any remaining team in the field.

Why Arizona Can Win The West Regional Semis

The Wildcats will win this matchup because they’re bigger and slightly better.

With just two double-digit scorers on their roster, San Diego State is very limited offensively. Led by Nick ‘s 16.3 points per game, Arizona has four double-digit scorers on the roster and one sure-fire lottery pick in athletic 6-9 freshman forward Aaron Gordon (12.4 ppg, 7.8 rpg).

The Wildcats also have a defense than can compare to San Diego State ‘s as they finished fifth in the nation in points allowed (58.2 ppg) and an identical fifth in field goal shooting defense (38.0%).

Could the Wildcats Go…To The Elite Eight?

Arizona has been one of the best teams in the nation all season long, so yes, they could easily bring home the March Madness championship hardware.

And the Winner In This Sweet Sixteen Matchup Is…

The Arizona Wildcats will beat the Aztecs in this contest much like they did in their 69-60 road win way back in November. The Wildcats simply have too much offense for San Diego State to keep up with, not to mention a huge chip on their collective shoulders.

Arizona is 7-1 ATS in their L/8 NCAA Tournament games and 20-7 ATS in their last 27 non-conference games while the favorite in this rivalry has gone 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings overall. The Wildcats win this contest and narrowly covers the spread!
