The UCLA Bruins have proven that their Pac-12 title is anything but a fluke and have done plenty to develop a sturdy following in the NCAA Tournament, but when you bet the Sweet Sixteen betting spreads this weekend you can not support them. This has nothing to do with how I feel about UCLA. Instead, it has everything to do with how terrified I am of these Florida Gators.
To be fair, UCLA has done really well so far but they’ve also had fairly easy matchups. I liked SFA over VCU but they can’t compete with a solid team like the Bruins. Neither could Tulsa. Betting the NCAA Tournament eventually shakes down to talent, and UCLA trumped both of those schools in spades. The problem with this Sweet Sixteen betting spread, however, is that Florida looks outright unbeatable.
Credit point man Scottie Wilbekin with being the motor of the hard charging Gators. Wilbekin is a pitbull on defense, and helps set a defensive tone for Florida that perfectly compliments the physical style of Patric Young. These Gators aren’t just solid defensively – they’re incredible. They consistently frustrate their opponents and wear them out until they don’t want to bother competing anymore.
It’s hard to bet the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen betting spread on this game knowing that UCLA doesn’t have a big man that can thwart the defensive fortress the Florida Gators erect. You need a guy like Julius Randle to really fight Florida and beat them at their own game. And the Bruins lack that type of body. There are a lot of capable big men left in the tournament as well…it’s just that none of them play for UCLA.
What are the point spreads in the other Sweet Sixteen games:
- Stanford -3.0 vs. Dayton (STAN -3.0)
- Wisconsin -3.5 vs. Baylor (BAY +3.5)
- Arizona -6.5 vs. San Diego State (ARI -6.5)
- Michigan -1.5 vs. Tennessee (TEN +1.5)
- Iowa State -1.5 vs. UConn (ISU -1.5)
- Louisville -5.0 vs. Kentucky (UK +5.0)
- Michigan State -1.5 vs. Virginia (MSU -1.5)
The Sweet Sixteen betting spread on this game is also a bit of a godsend. Were it any higher, I would tell you to go the other way because there’s the off chance that UCLA sets themselves on fire from the perimeter and nails every shot. But that rarely happens against these Gators. Long story shot, when you bet NCAA Tournament spreads this weekend and Florida has these low hanging lines, feel free to back them with everything you have because they’ll give you everything they’ve got and then some.
