Syracuse will win this ACC matchup if
Bump and grind the Tar Heels when they push the ball up the floor!
Jim Boeheim’s ball-club has ripped off eight wins in their last nine games and have gotten the job done mostly at the defensive end of the floor as they get set to face Miami on Saturday.
Syracuse ranks 34th in the country in points allowed (59.5ppg) and limit their opponents to a minuscule 37.6 percent shooting from the field to rank 17th overall.
One of the problems for the Orange this season has been their spotty offense which ranks just 146th in the country. While Syracuse has limited seven of their last eight opponents to 67 points or less, they’ve also been able to reach the 70-point plateau just three times over the span.
Syracuse gets a team high 18.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per game from Rakeem Christmas and has two other double-digit scorers on the roster in Trevor Cooney (11.4 ppg) and Michael Gbinije (10.8ppg).
North Carolina will win this ACC matchup if
Contest Orange shots from every point on the floor!
North Carolina is ranked a fantastic 19th in the nation in scoring, but it’s really the Tar Heels’ fantastic defense that gets the job done by limiting their opponents to a eye-opening 36.8 percent shooting mark from the field to rank 10th in the nation.

The Heels give up 65.3 points peer game while putting up a stellar 79.4 per contest and gets a team-high 13.5 points per game from guard Marcus Paige while forward Kennedy Meeks averages a team-high 8.4 rebounds per game and team-best 59.5 percent shooting mark.
Carolina needs to get out and run and harass the Orange shooters with their smothering defense in order to move to 5-0 over their last five and a blistering 10-1 over their last 11 games overall.
Who Syracuse or North Carolina win this ACC matchup?
The combinations of Carolina’s solid offense, outstanding field goal defensive percentage and Syracuse’s often invisible offense leads me to believe that the Heels will hold it down in this one though I think the Orange will cover a spread of about six points.
