TCU Will Cover the Spread If
They can defend Texas’ inside game.
In the first matchup between these two, a 66 to 48 Texas victory, the Longhorns shot 48% from the field. They were good on 24 of 50 shots. If TCU hopes to keep this one close, they’re going to have to defend much better than that.

Texas has a very talented front line. Jonathan Holmes, Cameron Ridley and Myles Turner can all dominate on any given night. TCU is going to have to keep all three of those guys from getting double-figures in scoring if they hope to stay within shouting distance in this match up. The things with Texas is that Rick Barnes, their coach, feeds off of the inside game. TCU has to play tough interior defense if they hope to have any shot of covering the spread.
Texas Will Cover the Spread If
They can slow the pace down and get good looks on offense.
TCU’s best effort in its last 5 games was a one point loss, 85 to 86, to West Virginia in overtime. In that matchup, the Horned Frogs tried to run with the Mountaineers. It didn’t work at the end, but it got TCU closer to a victory than any of its other last 6 games.

Texas slowed things down versus the Horned Frogs and pummeled them 66 to 48 in the last matchup. Other Big 12 teams have done the same thing to TCU. Kansas beat TCU 64 to 61 in a snorer and Oklahoma beat them 68 to 56. Even Baylor, who scored 77 points, only pushed the pace when it was there. They destroyed TCU 77 to 57. Iowa State beat TCU 83 to 66.
Texas doesn’t have the transition game that Baylor or Iowa State has, which means that for the Longhorns to be successful again versus the spread against the Horned Frogs, they’re going to want to slow things down, work for a shot and get excellent looks on offense. That’s the best way for Texas to cover the spread.
