We are one month away from Selection Sunday, and the top dogs are staking the claim at the peak of the mountain early there’s a handful of emerging markets that could be the best NCAA bubble teams to bet on before March Madness comes our way.
As you’d expect, ranked teams like Kansas, Syracuse, Wichita State, Creighton, Villanova and Florida are well on their way to securing berths as relatively high seeds in the big dance. But what about the lesser known programs? These are four NCAA bubble teams to keep tabs on heading down the home stretch.
The Best NCAA Tournament Bubble Teams To Bet On Before March Madness
PAC-12: Oregon Ducks (16-8 SU and 12-9-2 ATS)
It hasn’t been easy for the Oregon Ducks this year, but a sturdy 93-83 win over Oregon State has pushed them in to striking range of the tournament. They have become a pretty efficient play overall, going 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games after a miserable start to the new year. The player to watch here is Joseph Young who leads the team with 18.7 points per and just dropped 25 on the Beavers. The Ducks need to win four of their next six games (at least) to keep their post season hopes alive. They have winnable games against Washington and WSU on top this week, and two road efforts next week against UCLA and USC will pretty much define their season. I’m not saying that you should bet on their absurd +50000 odds to win the national title, but they could become a sneak play in the Pac-12 as they emerge as one of the best NCAA bubble teams to bet on before March Madness.
Big Ten: Minnesota Gophers (17-9 SU and 10-10-1 ATS)
The Gophers are often lost and forgotten in the shadow of their Big Ten brethren, but they’re not to be taken lightly. Minnesota has a terrifying stretch of games coming up starting with a matchup against Illinois on Wednesday. This weekend they play on the road against Ohio State, which is looking to bolster their post season stock as well. And next week they have a gauntlet of games that include Iowa, at Michigan and the upstart Penn State Lions. Minnesota has built a nice 3-0 ATS record in their last 3 games, and play a stingy brand of defense that most teams have struggled against, but the home stretch here will define them. Minnesota stands on the brink of elimination…but that also means they stand on the brink of something special. Stay tuned to these Gophers.
Big Ten: Nebraska Cornhuskers (14-10 SU and 15-8 ATS)
The team to watch in the Big Ten is as surprising to me as it is to everyone else. Nebraska has been rebuilding for what feels like ages, but with a massive road victory against the Michigan State Spartans, Nebraska has announced their intentions for a late season run. They are already the best betting team in the conference, but now they’re amongst the best NCAAB tournament bubble teams to bet on before March Madness where the heat index gets cranked up a little bit more. Nebraska is riding an awesome 9-1 ATS streak and have five winnable games against Penn, Purdue, Illinois, Northwestern and Indiana. Winning four of those five would definitely put them in the mix.
Big East: St. John’s Red Storm (17-9 SU and 11-13 ATS)
It’s taken a while, but St. John’s is definitely paying off huge dividends for their betting backers. The Red Storm have picked up a fantastic 8-2 SU and 7-3 ATS record over their past 10 games and that includes wins over Creighton, Providence, Marquette and Georgetown. The win over the Hoyas this past weekend was emphatic as St. John’s trounced the big name program from the Big East 82-60. After being written off earlier this season, St. John’s is surging up the standings and in to the hearts of gamblers who love an underdog. The Red Storm are clearly one of the best NCAA bubble teams to bet big, especially with the highly anticipated Big East Tournament coming up soon as well.
