If you’re looking to make some real money while the NBA distracts you with some All-Star shenanigans, then I have the top college basketball betting options this weekend listed below. All games involve ranked teams, and lines will be released Friday night and Saturday morning so check back with the book to see where the final number lands.
#16 Virginia Cavaliers over CLEMSON TIGERS (Saturday 12pm EST)
The Cavs have continued to stand tall as one of the top college basketball betting options in the sportsbook, and they should have no problem clearing a moderately fair line as road favorites against hapless Clemson this weekend. Virginia has gone a stiff 9-1 SU and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games, and while the Tigers are 4-2 ATS at home, they’re also 2-4 SU and 1-5-1 ATS in their last 6 games. The choice here is very, very easy.
#15 Iowa Hawkeyes over PENN STATE LIONS (Saturday 1pm EST)
Penn State continues to be a punching bag in the Big Ten. They’re just 4-7 ATS when playing at home this season and have gone a miserable 3-7 ATS overall in their past 10 games. Iowa should spank them silly as they continue to roll through the competition and maintain pace with the pair of Michigan schools that lead the way in this conference. The Hawkeyes are a polished 5-1 ATS when travelling this year. Don’t worry about an upset here.
#1 SYRACUSE ORANGE over NC State Wolfpack (Saturday 3pm EST)
I actually don’t mind NC State overall, but I mostly prefer them against equal competition. They’ve been spanked when playing ranked teams or big name programs. A recent 70-84 loss against UNC, a brutal 60-95 defeat the hands of Duke and a 45-76 clobbering handed to them by Virginia were nowhere close to covering. Syracuse will face a monster line here, but they’ve continued to offer returns for their backers despite being the best team in the rankings. That usually deters gamblers because of the public factor, but at 6-3-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall, the Orange remain one of the top college basketball betting options this weekend simply by virtue of their opponent.
#4 Florida Gators over #14 KENTUCKY WILDCATS (Saturday 9pm EST)
It’s the biggest match of the weekend and the only game featuring two ranked teams. Kentucky’s Julius Randle may have 16.0 points and 9.7 rebounds and he’s definitely one of the most talented players in the country, but Randle has struggled against teams with strong front court talent and Florida’s Patric Young can do himself plenty of favors by flustering Randle and bolstering the Gators on the betting line here with plenty of help from Will Yeguete and Dorian Finnney-Smith. The Gators have a lot of bodies to throw at Randle, and there isn’t enough supporting talent in Kentucky to make them one of the top college basketball betting options this weekend. Especially when they’re facing a Florida team that has handled their business very well all year. This is a huge test for both SEC teams, but the early edge should go to the Gators.
#6 Villanova Wildcats over #17 CREIGHTON BLUEJAYS (Sunday 5pm EST)
The last time these two teams met, Creighton went absolutely ballistic from range and crushed the Wildcats 96-68 while hitting 21-of-35 from beyond the arc. Can Villanova stop Creighton from lighting up yet again? Chances are high. Listen, that performance by the Bluejays from late January wasn’t necessarily a fluke because these guys can flat out shoot. But they hit 41.9 percent on average, which is nowhere close to the 60.0 percent they nailed in that game. Creighton has been wavering in the book lately and have gone just 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games (not including Thursday’s game against Butler). Villanova has been standing tall and are still the team to beat in the Big East. Their 16-5 ATS record is well justified by their 8-2 ATS run in the past 10 games. The Wildcats will remind Creighton, and the rest of the country, who owns this conference as they reign over the Big East as one of the top college basketball betting options this weekend.
