Updated NCAA Men’s Basketball Title Picks
The Odds-On Favorite Pick To Win The 2017 NCAA Basketball Title: Kansas
No team has been as impressive in the tournament as the Kansas Jayhawks. The Jayhawks are 2-0 straight up and 2-0 against the spread. They destroyed UC Davis 100 to 62 on March 17 as a -22.5 favorite. On March 19, they beat Michigan State 90 to 70 as a -7.5 favorite. Kansas should get a ton of love in sportsbooks. But, Kansas played two teams that probably shouldn’t have even made it to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. At what’s going to be low odds, I’m looking elsewhere.
The Smart Pick To Win The 2017 NCAA Basketball Title: Arizona
The Arizona Wildcats have been impressive as well. The thing about Arizona is that they seemed to learn from their first game, a 100 to 82 win over North Dakota, to their second game, a 69 to 60 win over St. Mary’s. What the other teams in the Sweet 16 must worry about with Arizona is how they can play slow and beat you, or play fast and beat you. Sean Miller is once again on the cusp of taking the Wildcats to the Elite 8. This season, Miller’s got a good enough team to win the Final Four.
The Value Bet The 2017 NCAA Basketball Title: Baylor
Don’t sleep on Baylor. I did. That’s one of the reasons my bracket is already busted after the first week. The Bears pulled away from New Mexico State 91 to 73 on March 17. Although they didn’t cover the spread, they out closed a top closing team in USC 82 to 78 this past Sunday. Baylor had to dig deep to beat a USC squad that upset the terrific SMU Mustangs in Round 1.
The Bears have size. They have outside shooters. They’re playing their best basketball of the season. All of it could add up to a Final Four win as an overlay.
The Dark Horse Pick To Win The 2017 NCAA Basketball Title: Xavier
The key game in the Sweet 16 to me is Xavier versus Arizona. If the Musketeers can find a way to beat the Wildcats, not out of the question, they could go all the way in the NCAA Tournament. Xavier dominated Florida State 91 to 66 in Round 2 as a 7-point underdog. They beat Maryland 76 to 65 in Round 1 as a 2-point underdog. Xavier has covered the spread in their last 6 games. They’re a legitimate dark horse to win the Final Four.
