With March Madness betting upsets coming early and often, the fourth-seed Georgetown Hoyas and fifth-seed Utah Utes both managed to survive and advance. The two squads will face-off in the round of 32 in what should be another great tilt with a 4th and 5th seed matchup.

Georgetown Will Cover the 4.5-point Spread If
The other 4 Hoyas on the court support D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera.
Georgetown was on fire from both the field and from behind the three point line in their 84 to 74 first round win over Eastern Washington on Thursday night. The Hoyas hit 25 out of 48 shots from the field. They shot 52.1%. From behind the arc, Georgetown hit 11 out of 23. That’s 47.8%.
The star of the game was Georgetown’s top scorer, D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera. Smith-Rivera was 6 out of 12 from the field and 4 out of 7 from three-point land. He shot over 50% from three and exactly 50% from the field. That’s pretty great. Smith-Rivera is going to have to be as good if Georgetown hopes to beat Utah and advance to the Sweet 16. Smith-Rivera is also going to need some help. Only 3 other players scored in double-figures in the victory over Eastern Washington and all three only scored 10 points each. That’s not going to cut it versus Utah.

Utah Will Cover the 4.5-point Spread If
Delon Wright plays lights out.
Utah beat Stephen F. Austin 57 to 50 as a -6.5 point favorite. Although Stephen F. Austin put in a run in the second half, the Utes held on for not only a straight up victory, but also a cover against the spread win.
They did it without their top player, Delon Wright, having a great game. Wright scored only 11 points. He was 2 out of 7 from the field and 0 for 2 from behind the arc. He did make 7 out of 8 free throw attempts. Wright is going to have to step it up versus Georgetown. The problem that Utah will have is if D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera is having a great game and Wright isn’t. If that happens, Georgetown may not need any of their other players to step it up. Smith-Rivera could very well do it all on his own. Wright has to take charge early. If he doesn’t, Utah won’t come close to covering the spread.
