Inconsistent No. 13 Kansas Looks to Avoid Home Upset Against Equally Spotty No. 20 West Virginia in Big 12 Battle

On their good days, No. 13 Kansas and No. 20 West Virginia look like they could beat anyone in the country. Unfortunately, both national championship title hopefuls keep throwing in bad days with their good, making both teams wildly inconsistent and tough to figure out.

With all of that said, let’s find out which one of these ‘Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’ teams is offering the best value when they throw down on Saturday, live from Allen Fieldhouse!

West Virginia beat TCU pretty soundly in their 82-66 win on Monday night thanks to some excellent contributions from their reserves. 6-5 freshman Teddy Allen came off the bench to score 16 points and lead the Mountaineers to victory.

"Every game is different and there are certain matchups where guys get hot," said Allen, who made 8 of 13 field goals and grabbed six rebounds. "We have a deep team and my number was called today, so I just tried to step up for my teammates."

West Virginia finally held on to a lead after struggling to do so on too many occasions this season. TCU closed to within five points on two separate occasions in the second half but went without a field goal over a crucial four-minute stretch. West Virginia finished off the Horned Frogs with a rare strong finish.

13th-ranked Kansas got past Iowa State 83-77 on Tuesday as Udoka Azubuike scored 19 points and Malik Newman added 17 points, but the Jayhawks have alternated wins and losses over their last four games.

Azubuike was almost perfect from the field while making 9 of 10 shots and adding three blocks.
"Whenever we need a big basket, we know we can go into the big fella," Newman said.

Kansas was on the wrong end of a humbling 70-64 loss against Baylor on Saturday that came one game after beating TCU 71-64. The Jayhawks beat the Mountaineers in West Virginia 71-66 on January 15, but I don’t see them getting the regular season sweep in this one, mostly because West Virginia is the better defensive ballclub in this matchup, plus they’re a bit more desperate.

Kansas’ leading scorer Devonte’ Graham isn’t exactly playing his best basketball right now and I’m thinking Jevon Carter is going to put him on lockdown with his stellar defense. West Virginia gets the road win in this one!

Final Score Prediction: West Virginia 73 Kansas 71
