The Shockers defense can be better this time around.

In that matchup, the Salukis outscored the Shockers 33 to 29 in the second half. Even though Wichita State held Southern Illinois to 39.3% shooting from the field, the Salukis took 56 shots. What Wichita State needs to do is find a way to lessen Southern Illinois’ number of possessions. Field goal percentage wise, Wichita State probably can’t play much better than they did against the Suluki’s the first time around. What they can do, though, is keep Southern Illinois’ possessions to lower than 56. That should help Wichita State cover the spread in this matchup.
Southern Illinois Will Cover the Spread If
Southern Illinois can shoot at a higher percentage than they did in the last matchup.
Southern Illinois, even though they shot at terribly low percentages, did find a way to cover the spread in the last game between these two. The final score was 55 to 67. The Salukis were 18.5 point dogs.
They’re going to have to be somewhat better in this matchup on the offensive end because Southern Illinois takes on Wichita State at home in this one. Shooting 39.3% from the field may not be good enough because since the Salukis covered the spread in the first game, it’s highly likely that the spread is going to be much lower in this matchup. The Salukis might be less than a 10 point dog in this game. If that’s the case, Southern Illinois is going to have to be much better both from the field and from behind the three-point line in order to cover the spread.
