Eleventh-ranked Wichita State, who is gunning for a shot at the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title, has Saturday’s showdown with No. 10 Northern Iowa circled on their collective calendars, but first the 11th-ranked Shockers will face the 14-14 Indiana State Sycamores.
“Just a big difference between those two teams,” Sycamores coach Greg Lansing said. “You’re talking about a top-15 ranked team and a team that’s trying to contend for a championship in the Missouri Valley with Northern Iowa, and we’re not there yet.”
Tonight’s tilt can be dangerous for the 9.5-point favored Wichita State Shockers, who won six in a row since losing to Northern Iowa last month, a team they will face in their last game of the season with ESPN’s College Gameday on campus. If the Shockers want a favorable seeding come Selection Sundy they must stay focused as they seek a sixth straight victory in their head-to-head series against the Sycamores.

Wichita State Will Cover the 11-point Spread If
The Shockers can run and gun it while playing lock down defense.
Wichita State played about as good of a game against the Indiana State Sycamores as possible in their 74 to 57 victory over Indiana State on Feb. 11. Even though the Shockers pushed against the spread as a -17 point favorite in the 74 to 57 win, Wichita State could have possibly made the margin of victory much greater.
— GoShockers (@GoShockers) February 24, 2015
The Shockers held Indiana State to 34.8% shooting in a 16 out of 46 performance. From behind the three-point line, Wichita State held the Sycamores to 3 out of 13 for 23.1% shooting. Wichita State took 62 shots from the field. The reason that the margin of victory wasn’t greater is because the Shockers only hit 26 of those 62 shots for 41.9%. If Wichita State can play the same lock down defense in this matchup and then get easy buckets on the offensive end, they should be able to cover the spread.
Indiana State Will Cover the 11-point Spread If
Indiana State can shoot closer to their averages in this matchup.
The Sycamores are much better offensively than what they showed against Wichita State in the first game between these two. Indiana State shot only 34.8%. It’s tough to beat a good team on the road like the Shockers when you hit only 16 out of 46 shots. Missing 30 shots is never a good way to win a basketball game.

But the Sycamores’ averages on offense are usually much better than that. Indiana State averages 67.6 points per game off of 43.4% shooting from the field and 36.4% shooting from behind the three-point line. The Sycamores go into their rematch versus the Shockers off of a brilliant performance where they shot 49.1% from the field and 50% from behind the arc in a 78 to 58 home victory over Southern Illinois. If they can shoot as well versus the Shockers, they will be in position to upset mighty Wichita State.
