Wofford Will Cover the Spread If
The Terriers’ defense is able to stop Arkansas’ run n gun game.
Wofford has a very good 28 and 6 record. Going into the NCAA Tournament, Wofford is one of the few teams with an offense and defense that looks capable of battling power conference schools like Arkansas. Once again, the selection committee can’t help itself but match up a 5 seed with a really good 12 seed.
Wofford, in order to cover the spread versus Arkansas on Thursday, though, is going to need to concentrate on defense. The Terriers shoot 45% from the field and 37.6% from behind the arc. They average 67 points per game. Defensively, they’ll need to play slightly better than the way that they normally play. Wofford is good at keeping teams below 60 points at 59.8 points allowed on average per matchup, but opponents shoot 41.7% against them. One has to assume that Arkansas will shoot better than 41.7%, because they are a better offensive team than what Wofford is used to facing, on Thursday. Wofford needs to really concentrate on getting back on D and shutting off Arkansas’ running game if they hope to cover the spread.

Arkansas Will Cover the Spread If
The Hogs can create turnovers and capitalize.
Arkansas is one team that doesn’t pay as much attention on the defensive end as it does on the offensive end. The Razorbacks’ defense allows 70.1 points per game. Teams average 43.1% from the field and 35.3% from behind the arc versus Arkansas. The Razorbacks are willing to get into an up and down, transition basketball contest.
Against Wofford, an extremely balanced but defensive-minded opponent, Arkansas has to run in order to cover the spread. If the Razorbacks play into Wofford’s hands, and get into a half-court game, the Terrieris might upset Arkansas straight up in this matchup. Arkansas is not good enough in the half-court to beat Wofford. It’s just not their style. The Razorbacks should push the ball on each and every missed Wofford shot.
