The fifth-seeded and 7-point favorite Northern Iowa Panthers may have been seeded 7 spots higher, but their round of 64 March Madness betting tilt against the 12th-seeded Wyoming Cowboys will be decided in the final seconds, if not in OT.
Wyoming needed to win the MW tournament to make to the big dance. Although the Cowboys had needed the assistance of the automatic bid due to that win, they are very capable of upsetting UNI and even make a run to the Sweet 16 or deeper. After all, the Cowboys do have Larry Nance Jr. More on him later.

This will be the third time Wyoming and Northern Iowa meet in the history of both programs. The Cowboys won in 2008 by a score of 74-65 covering the spread as three-points favorites, but the Panthers responded a year later with a 72-54 victory that saw them cover the spread as 16.5 points favorites. Can UNI overcome the 7-points being given to Wyoming to cover the March Madness betting spread?
Wyoming won the last three games of the regular season including a victory over San Diego State that helped them claim the Mountain West championship and the automatic invite to the Big Dance. The Cowboys finished the season with a 25-9 record, 11-18 against the spread, posting a 4-3 mark against other teams that were invited to the NCAA Tournament.
The Cowboys are led by senior forward Larry Nance Jr. (16.1 PPG, 7.2 RPG, 2.5 APG) and junior guard Josh Adams (13.1 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 3.5 APG), and the team averages 61.7 points per game (308th), 14.3 assists per game (59th), shooting 46.2 from the field (60th). Their defense average 56.0 points per game against while recording 30.1 rebounds per game (330th).
"If you want to climb a ladder and cut a net down, here’s some things to focus on and here’s some things not to focus on," Wyoming coach Larry Shyatt said. "… The same time I do want them to enjoy. Northern Iowa is well ahead of us because they have been terrific for a number of years now."
Northern Iowa beat Illinois State for the Missouri Valley Conference title. They had an impressive 30-3 record this season, 19-9-3 against the spread, and they ended 4-2 against fellow NCAA tourney teams. The Panthers score 65.4 points per game (223rd), shooting 48.3% from the field (16th) and recording 11.9 assists per game, led by Seth Tuttle (15.3 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 3.3 APG), and Wes Washpun (7.7 PPG, 2.6 RPG, 2.6 APG). Their defense allows 54.3 points per game (5th) and grabs 30.8 rebounds per game (320th).
"Once you make it this far, every team you play is going to be really good," senior forward Seth Tuttle said. "I’ve watched Wyoming a couple times… It’s going to be a battle."
The Cowboys are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 neutral site games as an underdog, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600, but 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following an ATS win.
