College Football Odds & Predictions - No. 1 Florida State at North Carolina State

2014 Florida State Seminoles College Football Betting Preview

Not many college football programs can brag about winning the BCS Championship with a freshman quarterback. The Florida State Seminoles did it in style last season and now will try to repeat with QB Jameis Winston entering his second season on the job.

Winston has been a double edged sword with several off the field issues overshadowing his stellar on the field play.

"Not after we found out the story and what had happened and [what Winston did] was not a malicious thing," head coach Jim Fisher said. "It was not done with intent."

"People need to realize, when you suspend him in baseball, you understand how important baseball is to him? That cut his heart out," Fisher added. "If it was done maliciously, we may have done other things. It was a silly mistake and not done with any malicious doing, and you don’t punish a guy twice for the same crime."

This year colllege football will shift to a playoff system and the Seminoles are listed at +450 to repeat as national champions. Click here for more NCAA Football odds.

How Will Florida State’s Offense Look In 2014?

QB Jameis Winston not only is the defending Heisman Trophy winner but he’s also the favorite to repeat as champion at +300 in the in the college football future prop betting odds. Winston completed 237 passes for 3820 yards last season, along with 38 touchdown passes and just 10 interceptions; he also added two more TDs in the BCS Championship game where Florida State beat Auburn 34-31.

Winston will be protected by his five starting linemen, all returning for their senior year, including All-America candidates Cameron Erving and Tre’ Jackson. RB Karlos Williams will also be back after recording 730 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2013 while averaging 8.0 yards per carry as the third tailback on the team. This year he will start, so look for him to play strong to lift his draft day value.

Winston’s favorite targets are senior wideout Rashad Greene (981 yards, 9 TDs in 2013) and senior tight end Nick O’Leary (557 yards 7 TDs); however, he lost receiver WR Kelvin Benjamin who led the team with 15 TDs in 2013.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher will have the difficult task to emulate what his team did last season, but considering he has most of the tools back, you can expect a huge year from this unit.

How Will Florida State’s Defense Look In 2014?

The Seminoles biggest challenge for the upcoming season will be replacing five of their top six players on defense, especially defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan, linebacker Telvin Smith and defensive back Lamarcus Joyner, all leaders that are now gone.

USA Today named defensive end Mario Edwards, National Defensive Player of the Year as a senior in high school, he showed in 2013 why he was picked for the award, and now on his junior year in College he should be the player with the most impact in the unit.

The team also will face the loss of two key starters in the secondary, but Sophomore Jalen Ramsey, who played last season as a true freshman showed he has the skills to carry this line playing either cornerback or safety when needed.
