College Football Week 1 Parlay Picks

2016 College Football Week 1 Parlay Picks

College Football Week 1 is around the corner. It’s time to start analyzing my week 1 College Football parlay picks.

Week 1 is always tough because football bettors have to go off visual clues from practices. I think I’ve got a shot. Will Florida State cover the 6 points over Ole Miss?  What will happen in the Week 1 marquee game between Georgia and North Carolina?  How well will Arizona play versus tough BYU in Week 1?

College Football Week 1 Two-Team Parlay Pick

  • Florida State -6
  • North Carolina +3

#12 Ole Miss vs #4 Florida State
When: Monday, Sept. 5 at 8:00 pm ET
Odds:  Florida State -6

Analysis: Ole Miss has a true freshman, Greg Little, playing at left tackle. Laremy Tunsil provided protection to QB Chad Kelly’s blind side last season. Is Little comparable to Tunsil?  Maybe he will be in the future. But not right now. Not only that, but 3 other players along the offensive line are new.

Things wouldn’t be so difficult in this game if not for Florida State’s excellent pass rush. The Seminoles have an elite pair of defensive ends in Josh Sweat and DeMarcus Walker. Walker recorded 58 tackles, 15 which went for a loss, and 10.5 sacks last season.

Florida State’s offense is solid. RB Dalvin Cook is a Heisman Trophy candidate. The QB position potentially goes 3 deep while the offensive line returns 7 players with starting experience. FSU should roll

Pick: Florida State -6

#16 Georgia vs #20 North Carolina
When: Saturday, Sept. 3 at 5:30 pm ET
Odds:  Georgia -3

Analysis: The love for new Georgia coach Kirby Smart is understandable. Smart is the architect of the Alabama defenses that shut down the SEC’s powerful rushing attacks the past couple of seasons. Smart has the ability to really turn Georgia into something special.

But it won’t happen this season. Smart goes into a situation in Georgia where the offense will be loaded. The defense?  That’s another story. There is no player on Georgia’s defense this season that’s comparable to OLB Leonard Floyd who bolted to the NFL after last season. Also, even though Smart’s defensive line and linebackers were great at Alabama, the secondary gave up 200.3 passing yards per game. Not bad, but not great considering that Smart has a less talented secondary at Georgia in 2016.

North Carolina returns 4 of 5 starters along the offensive line. New QB Mitch Trubisky has played in 21 games the past 2 seasons. He completed 40 of 47 passes with no interceptions in 2015. Elijah Wood returns at RB. NC should outscore Georgia in this matchup.

Pick: North Carolina +3

College Football Week 1 Three-Team Parlay Pick

  • Florida State -6
  • North Carolina +3
  • BYU SU

Arizona vs BYU
When: Saturday, Sept. 3 at 10:30 pm ET
Odds:  Pick

Analysis: The Arizona Wildcats are supposed to challenge the better teams in the Pac 12 for the championship this season. That could be difficult for coach Rich Rodriguez to pull off. Although Arizona’s offense will score a lot of points, the defense could be an absolute mess again. The good news for the D is that Marcel Yates, the new defensive coordinator, ran things at Boise State. The Broncos had one of the most aggressive, blitzing, defenses in the nation last year. That’s going to help. What’s also going to help is that there’s depth at the QB position behind Anu Solomon. If Solomon gets hurt, Brian Dawkins or Kahlil Tate could step in.

But none of those things should get Arizona past BYU on Sept. 3. BYU can go back to QB Taysom Hill, a Heisman Trophy candidate a couple of years ago, or start sophomore Tanner Mangum. BYU’s defense should be solid while the offensive line figures to return at least center Tejan Koroma. I think BYU blasts Arizona on Sept. 3.

Pick: BYU
