Why Bet On #9 UCLA (-3.5) to Beat #16 Arizona

The Bruins are 3-0 vs the Wildcats in the last 3 seasons.

UCLA is one of the more complete teams in college football this season. The Bruins have an excellent offense led by freshman QB Josh Rosen. The offense averages 477 yards and 31.7 points per game. UCLA rushes for 240.3 yards per game.

But what makes UCLA a potential Pac 12 champion is their defense. The Bruins’ D has played very well this season. In UCLA’s first game, the Bruins held Virginia to 336 yards and a 2.9 yards per rush average. Versus UNLV in their second game, the Bruins held the Runnin’ Rebels to 237 total yards. UNLV passed for only 56 yards. BYU presented the toughest test to date for the UCLA defense. The defense came up big time when holding the Cougars to less than 4 yards per carry. UCLA’s D also came up big in the fourth quarter since BYU had a 16 to 6 lead on the Bruins.

In last year’s battle between these two, UCLA’s defense held Arizona to 255 total yards and only 7 points. It was a brilliant game by the Bruins’ D. If they can repeat history on Saturday, UCLA should be able to win the game and cover the spread.

Why Bet On #16 Arizona to Beat #9 UCLA (-3.5)

Arizona has the Pac-12’s top-ranked offense — 54.3 points per game, No. 3 nationally

In Rich Rodriguez’s fourth year in Tucson, the Arizona Wildcats are a much better team. Rich Rod has had a plan since taking over the football program in the desert. Finally, his plan is coming to fruition. Since underperforming versus the University of Texas-San Antonio in their first game of the season, a 42 to 32 win, Arizona has been spectacular.

The Wildcats punished Nevada 44 to 20 in their second game as a -9.5 point favorite. Versus NAU in their third game, Arizona scored 77 points in a 77 to 13 win. The Wildcats’ offense is averaging 584.7 yards per game. Arizona is averaging 54.3 points per game. QB Anu Solomon has thrown 10 touchdowns and no interceptions. He’s also passed for 778 yards. He’s completing 68% of his passes. RB Nick Wilson has rushed for 434 yards and 5 touchdowns. He’s easily the best running back that UCLA has faced so far this season.

Arizona’s defensive captain, the terrific Scooby Wright III, might return for this game. If he does, a much improved Arizona defense, one that’s allowing only 21.7 points per game, will be tougher than it normally is. This feels like another upset. UCLA is good, but Arizona is on a roll and they get UCLA in Tucson. I am picking the Arizona Wildcats as the smart bet in this game versus UCLA. Also the over. My final score prediction is Arizona 42, UCLA 28.
