Alabama vs Mississippi State Expert PickJosh Bailey
Can No. 16 Mississippi State Cover Chalk as Double-Digit Home Dogs Against Top-Ranked Alabama
Despite doing absolutely nothing wrong to lose their national No. 1 ranking the Alabama Crimson Tide are now the No. 2 team in the AP rankings. With SEC rival Mississippi State up to No. 16 in the country after their impressive win the last time out, it should be interesting to see if the Tide will take out their anger on the rival Bulldogs in their Week 11 SEC showdown.
Let’s find out now if No. 16 Mississippi State can cover the chalk as definitive double-digit home underdogs against the unbeaten Crimson Tide. The longtime conference rivals will square off in from Starkville, Mississippi on Saturday at 7:00 PM ET with this matchup airing live on ESPN.
Alabama vs Mississippi State Odds & Expert Pick
No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide (9-0) at No. 16 Mississippi State Bulldogs (7-2)

Where: Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field
Odds: Alabama -14.5
Okay, so No. 2 Alabama didn’t dominate No. 19 LSU last weekend in its 24-10 win and they sure didn’t come close to covering the spread as 20.5-point favorites as I predicted, but the Tide did remain unbeaten and they got an impressive performance from quarterback Jalen Hurts in the process. Hurts passed for 183 yards and one touchdown and added another rushing touchdown in the win while running back
Bo Scarborough added another rushing score for good measure. Defensively, Alabama recorded six sack and an interception while mostly dominating LSU’s offense.
Mississippi State has won four straight including their 34-23 win over UMass last weekend although the Bulldogs never came close to covering the chalk as a whopping 33.5-point favorite. Quarterback Nick Fitzgerald rushed for two scores in the win but struggled to pass the ball by tossing two interceptions against the pretty much, mid-major-like Minutemen.
Now, heading into this contest, I believe Alabama is looking to make a huge statement that they are still the best team in all of college football. Alabama has won nine straight against Mississippi State by a whopping average of 23.6 points per game. Last year, the Tide absolutely crushed the Bulldogs 51-3 as Jalen hurts accounted for an insane 447 yards of offense and five touchdowns.
Alabama has gone a near-perfect 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 conference games while Mississippi State has gone 3-6 ATS in its last 9 games against the Crimson Tide. While the home team in this SEC rivalry has gone 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings, I believe Mississippi State is facing Alabama at the worst possible time. I’m betting Alabama to cover the chalk and you should too!’
