Can Ole Miss Cover the Spread On Road Against Mighty, No. 1 Alabama?
The Mississippi Rebels don’t stand any chance whatsoever of beating the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide when they square off in their Week 5 SEC mismatch on Saturday, making the only ‘real’ question surrounding this pairing whether or not the Rebels can cover the spread as nearly four-touchdown road underdogs.
Simply put, let’s find out right now!

Why Bet the Mississippi Rebels Spread at +27.5
The best (only?) reason to bet on Ole Miss is that they’re getting almost four touchdowns as road dogs in this one. The Rebels got smacked around in their humbling 27-16 road loss against California this past weekend as quarterback Shea Patterson struggled by completing just 26 of 44 passes for 363 yards with two TD passes, but three costly interceptions. Mississippi was held to a paltry 53 rushing yards in the loss and got shut out in the second half.
“You have to try to attack them and make somebody other than their front seven make a play," Ole Miss head coach Matt Luke said.
Why Bet the Alabama Crimson Tide Spread at -27.5
The best reason to back Alabama in this contest is that they’ve looked increasingly better each week and laid an emphatic 59-0 smackdown on Vanderbilt this past weekend that put all of their SEC rivals on notice.
The Crimson Tide got 151 rushing yards and three touchdowns from Damien Harris and 79 rushing yards and two more scores from fellow running back Bo Scarborough in the win. Quarterback Jalen Hurts completed 9 of 17 passes for a modest 78 yards, but really didn’t need to do anything in the convincing win while Harris had a 61-yard TD burst in the win.
"Once I got to the second and third level, I kind of subconsciously started thinking about a couple runs last year that I wasn’t able to finish," Harris said, laughing.
Alabama Vs Ole Miss Week 5 ATS Pick
I have absolutely no idea who the 43 percent of public bettors that like Ole Miss to cover the spread in this contest are, but right about now, I’m thinking anyone that is backing the rebels to cover the spread in this Week 5 mismatch is a bit nuts after seeing how Alabama completely destroyed the previously unbeaten Vanderbilt Commodores last weekend.
Ole Miss is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games while Alabama has gone a near-perfect 7-1 ATS in their last 8 conference games and 15-7 ATS in their last 22 games against a team with a winning record.
Maybe it’s me, but right now, no spread looks too high for Alabama to cover. There’s a reason why 57 percent of public bettors like the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide to beat Ole Miss and cover the chalk as insane 27.5-point home favorites!
ATS Pick: Alabama -27.5
