Analyzing My ASU vs OSU Week 12 Expert Betting Pick

Arizona State’s victory over Notre Dame could go down as one of the most important in the school’s history. ASU was awesome early. It forced three Everett Golson interceptions that the Sun Devils turned into a ton of points. At half time, the score was Arizona State 34 and Notre Dame 3.

But, then, the second half almost made ASU look like a laughing stock. Notre Dame cut the score to 34 to 31 before ASU took a deep breath and scored the next 21 points. At the end, the Sun Devils beat the Fighting Irish 55 to 31. Arizona State has been on fire since a 27 to 62 loss to UCLA in late September.

The Sun Devils have won 5 straight games including beating Stanford 26 to 10, USC via a Hail Mary pass 38 to 34, Washington 24 to 10 and Utah 19 to 16 before trouncing the Irish this past Saturday. ASU is as hot as any team in college football. The defense has been as good as any team in college football the past few weeks as well.

The defense, overall, is allowing teams to average close to 400 yards per game against it, but that does not tell the whole story. The average is skewed because UCLA went for 580 yards against the Sun Devils early on this season. Washington could muster only 290 total yards while Utah could get only 241 total yards against Arizona State’s defense. On offense, the Sun Devils are averaging 475.7 yards and close to 37 points per game. Arizona State’s offense should have no trouble scoring against an Oregon State defense that allows 384.7 yards and 30 points per game on average.

Oregon State has lost 4 games. The losses have been bad. The Beavers got stomped by Cal, 45 to 31 at home two games ago and ended up dropping another home game to Washington State by a 39 to 32 score in their last matchup. Oregon State is a terrible 2 and 7 against the spread this season. The Beavers are 1 and 4 against the spread at home this season.

The trends point to an ASU romp. ASU is 5 and 0 versus a team with a losing record while Oregon State is 1 and 5 against the spread in their last 6 games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game. The Beavers are also 1 and 5 ATS in their last 6 home games versus a team with a winning road record.

Arizona State is playing about as well as any team in college football right now. Oregon State just isn’t in the same class as ASU. The Sun Devils should easily cover the spread against Oregon State on Nov. 15.
