Bet on Arizona State Because…
Arizona State’s rushing attack will wear down USC’s defense. The Sun Devils are a power rushing football team. They score a lot of points but their bread and butter is running the football. ASU sticks to the rushing attack even if it doesn’t yield results in the first 2 quarters. It’s worked so far as the Sun Devils commitment to the run has led to an undefeated record.
Bet on USC Because…
USC is better than their 1-3 straight up record. The losses have been to Alabama, Stanford and Utah. Those are 3 Top 25 teams. Stanford is ranked in the Top 10 while Alabama is the number one ranked team in the nation. The Trojans play a team that’s more on their level in the Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday. They should perform much better against ASU than they have so far this season.
There is no way that Arizona State should be a 9-point dog in this game. The Sun Devils have too strong of a rushing attack to be such big underdogs. ASU rushed the ball 50 times against Cal. They only yielded 164 yards. That’s a 3.3 per carry average.
But that’s just the thing. Who cares if it only yielded a 3.3 per carry average? ASU wore down Cal’s defense to eventually win the game 51 to 41 as a -3.5 home favorite.
What you have to worry about if you’re a USC fan is the defense’s ability to last for 4 quarters. USC looked great against Utah for most of the game. Then, as soon as the 4th quarter rolled around, the Trojans gave it up.
I just don’t see USC’s defense holding up against the ASU power rushing attack. I think ASU wears out the defense and the Sun Devils sneak away with the straight up win.
