After stumbling to a 2-3 start to the season, the Houston Cougars got onto the same page, winning five of their next seven games, becoming bowl eligible for the second straight season. Houston will win the Armed Forces Bowl if
They can slow down James Conner and Tyler Boyd!
If the Houston Cougars want to win the 2015 Armed Forces Bowl, then their first order of business has to be finding a way to slow down Pittsburgh’s superstar sophomore running back James Conner.
The elusive Conner earned first team All-American honors after rushing for a whopping 1,675 yards and 24 touchdowns. The ACC Player of the Year also finished fifth in the nation in rushing yards.
Houston will also have to contain speedy wide receiver Tyler Boyd, who joined Arizona Cardinals superstar Larry Fitzgerald as the only receivers in school history to record consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons. Boyd is also a dangerous returner that led the conference in punt return average (10.8 yards) and kickoff return average (28.7 yards).

While Houston finished an impressive 19th in total defense, strangely enough, the Cougars ranked just 31st against the run and 29th against the pass. If they can’t stop Pittsburgh’s sure-fire, future NFL performers, then they’re going to be hard-pressed to win this affair.
Pittsburgh will win the Armed Forces Bowl if
The can shake up Greg Ward Jr. and contain Kenneth Farrow!
Pittsburgh will need to get in the face of receiver-turned-quarterback Greg Ward Jr. if they want to win the 2015 Armed Forces Bowl. Ward Jr. performed admirably in leading the Cougars to an impressive 5-2 finish over the final seven games after taking over for former starter John O’Korn on Oct. 11. Ward Jr. completed an impressive 67.8 percent of his passes in his seven starts while throwing nine touchdown passes.

The Panthers will also have to shut down speedy running back Kenneth Farrow (934 yards) after the second-team All-AAC back topped the 100-yard plateau in six games.
Who will win the Armed Forces Bowl?
The Pittsburgh Panthers are the pick for me, mostly because of the way they played over their final two regular season games and the fact that they play much tougher competition than the Houston Cougars.
Pittsburgh holds the statistical edge over Houston in scoring, yards per game, red zone offense and time of possession. The Panthers also have the best player on the field in James Conner.
64 percent of the betting public like Pittsburgh to win and cover the spread and so do I, particularly after seeing the way the Panthers closed out their regular season to become bowl eligible.
