Why Bet On Auburn to Beat LSU (-7)
The Auburn Tigers can’t be this bad, can they?
So far, things haven’t gone well at Auburn. Coach Gus Mahlzan hired a new defensive coordinator in former Florida coach Will Muschamp. Muschamp was supposed to fix a defense that supposedly had a lot of talent that wasn’t being utilized correctly. It turns out that the problem might actually be with the talent.
Auburn needed overtime in order to beat Jacksonville State, a team that they were favored to beat by over 44 points. War Eagle couldn’t really get anything going on offense either, which is a sign that the defense isn’t the only issue at Auburn. QB Jeremy Johnson has been dreadful in 2 games. Auburn hasn’t faced the best defenses in college football, either. Maybe, Johnson just isn’t a very good QB. So far, Johnson has thrown only 2 touchdowns to 3 interceptions. He’s completing only 60% of his passes. He’s thrown for only 373 yards.
Auburn can’t be this bad, can it? War Eagle could only beat Louisville 31 to 24 in Week 1. Louisville lost to Houston at home as a -13.5 point favorite in Week 2. Auburn probably should have lost to Jacksonville State but got lucky. If Auburn really is this bad, LSU could dominate them on Saturday.
Why Bet On LSU (-7) at Auburn
LSU’s defense is as good as any in the SEC.
Like Auburn, LSU also has a new defensive coordinator. John Chavis went to Texas A&M. Head coach Les Miles replaced Chavis with Kevin Steele. Steele coached the linebackers over at Alabama in 2014. He developed Reggie Ragaland into one of the top linebackers in the nation.
Steele’s already proven to have done a fantastic job. As a -3 point favorite on the road versus Mississippi State and State’s fantastic QB Dak Prescott, Steele’s defense held the Bulldogs to 6 points through 3 quarters. Steele’s group did give up 13 points in the fourth quarter to Mississippi State, but that was all Prescott.
Steele’s group held the Mississippi State rushing attack to only 43 yards on 26 carries. Mississippi State’s tremendous come back was all due to Dak Prescott who went 34 out of 52 for 334 yards and a TD. Nobody will ever confuse Jeremy Johnson for Dak Prescott.
LSU’s defense could feast on Auburn’s offense. If Auburn can’t outscore LSU, the Tigers will win this game easily. RB Leonard Fournette for LSU should have no trouble taking apart the Auburn D. I am picking LSU as the smart bet in this tilt. My final score prediction is LSU 28, Auburn 10.
